Big problem here,
production insurance is covering only if footage is taped (or film negative) at the end of the day. No hard disk storage accepted.
Any precedent to mention? Maybe in the U.S. & A. insurance company started already to do so.

This sounds crazy. Is it same in still productions - which to 99% is done on to CFs and harddisks today?

Paolo, do u refere to Italian insurance?
If yes wich one you have try?
We will start our first feature shooted on red on the middle of may so that should be really an issue (I will contact the insurance after 12 of april) and I am little concerned.
Andrea

P.s.
they have already delivery your red? I have see that your number is near to mine, and I am still waiting for the delivery (total amount payed 2 weeks ago)

Ciao Qwert000,
i'm referring to the policy of the top italian film insurances (pls note i'm Rome based).
It's a major issue. I think i'll jump on the 1080 to deck bandwagon...

P.s.
my Red was pay'd when dollar was high :-(

In America, le società di assicurazioni prendono i moneies e negano i reclami.

Data tape should be fine Paolo,
Rent or purchase a recorder.

Ciao
Andrea

Hi Mezmo,
yes, data tape is fine. I'm missing how to record tape from the Red (being 720 not an option)

Maybe Mezmo is referring to a LTO3 tape backup device connected to your computer to backup the R3D files?

We use hdcam (sr) as backup for insurances, exchange and delivery and are very satisfied. Has been a good system for us over 5 years now. Never lost a tape, maybe ~10 dropped frames in thousands and thousands of hours of footage on several decks.
