Hi all,

Just about to take delivery of 1083 and very excitied we are too! Now for something to put it in...

Obviously we'll put a minimum shooting config in a 1510 for carry-on purposes (thinking 2x batts, CF cards, R1 of course, EVF, cradle, a Noga arm or two and a RedDrive plus some cabling, which should all fit?). Now we need a case (I'm thinking single case for checking as we'll be travelling by road for the most part) containing the remaining aks, which are:

LCD (LS Design Carrion B)
2x Red Batts + Charger
2x RedDrives
Perhaps more CF cards once 16GB becomes available
Handles
Battery Belt Clip
15mm Rod adapter
Universal mount or two
Nikon (or PL, if Nikon installed) mount
Sensor Loupe and cleaning kit
Possibly a MatteBox
Rods if possible (certainly 12" rods, maybe not 18's)
Maybe a Nexto or similar for field backups
Additional cables and spares

Any thoughts on a good size Peli for this application? What's everyone else using?

Cheers!
Dom.

I'm using two Storm im2700's with padded dividers for the RED kit, including all rods up to 24". (The 24" rods sit at an angle atop the dividers. I'll try to take a couple pics once I get my package back from my 1st a.c. this week.

Add a smaller case for lenses, matte box, etc.

Thanks Michael - the iM2700's are similat in capacity to the 1510's aren't they - i.e. as big as you can carry on?

Good news if so, thanks for the effort...

The Porta Brace 2650s have been working nicely for us.

Cheers Evin - I'll have a look at those too, although I'm wary of Portabrace casing for flight, assuming it's a soft case like the PB's I'm used to using for DSRs and Z1s, etc...

No these are not soft cases, but actually quite nice hard shell cases.

Ah, OK, just found them - they look nice, thanks for the tip Evin...

how do they stack up weight-wise vs a Peli?

Evin, are you using the Porta Brace 2650 with the removable interior case or with some other padding solution?

Thanks!

Can you elaborate on what your "complete shooting package" consists of?
Most packages require multiple cases.

;) Just kidding, but is there anything other than the above you need to know? What's your advice - so far it's the usual suspects - Storm, Peli or PB. I've just ordered a 1510 as it's a safe bet for carry-on and I've used them before.

Not entirely sure I like the handle on the Storm cases, which is a shame because I do like their weight and the latches they use...

Evin, what's the PB like in weight and comfort to carry terms?

anybody else found 'the usual suspects' ie. storm, peli and pb to be too heavy? i can see these and/or custom metal flight cases for driving distance...but as a viable alternative for lower budget flight intensive projects they are heavy and garner too much attention.

its tough when 20lbs of your 50 allowable goes to the case itself.

in my situation i'm looking at heavier cases (actually really like custom metal cases) for vancouver/pacific northwest/western canada shoots (where i live) and gibby's backpack carry-on + customized Samsonite Flight hardshell suitcases and hardshell golfclub cases (tripod, lightstands, boom poles) for in the plane.

bigger budget can pay the extra baggage for my custom cases, but i'm involved in extremely economical :) situations too and am trying to find something that works well.

i should say, i've got a lot of traveling experience with kata's hard/soft bags and they're pretty good too, but the thin hardshell of Samsonite's ultralight hardshell series, combined with good foam, is pretty interesting, lighter weight, alternative.
