Anthony Minghella won an Oscar for directing The English Patient

"Oscar-winning director Anthony Minghella, who turned such literary works

as "The English Patient" "The Talented Mr. Ripley" and "Cold Mountain"
into acclaimed movies, has died. He was 54."

I still can't believe it.

He was a great director and writer.

It's really a shame.

Despite the fact that I was not a fan of all of his films- I can still say even the ones that I did not care for as much were made with artistic integrity and a seemingly unique vision. From a strictly film standpoint, it's always sad day when we lose someone like that.

That's awful!

No more Minghella movies! No more of his very articulate and wonderful DVD commentaries...

Sanjin, we are in total agreement here. Very, very sad.

EDIT: And Arthur C. Clarke on the same day. Good grief!

The bad part is, these usually happens in threes, so we're just waiting for the next shoe to drop. :(

Clarke was a legend.

I saw the Clarke obit a little earlier and thought the same thing.

Hopefully Fincher will go ahead and make "Rendezvous with Rama" sometime in the near future.

Sad news. I never much cared for the English Patient but absolutely loved Cold Mountain. A true artist.
