We need to extend the hdmi output from the cameras 600+ feet. We need the extra infomation on the hdmi output that is not on the hdsdi output.
We have fiber adapters from several manufacturers, and none will pass the Red's HDMI output. HDMI boosters will not even pass the signal. Only thing that locks are monitors.
1280x848/60hz is well within the bandwidth, its just that it has non-standard timing. We need to know the specifications of the red's hdmi output so that we can have the fiber adapters adjusted:
Horizontal refresh Rate, Active Pixels, Front Porch, Sync Width, Back Porch
Vertical refresh Rate, Active Pixels, Front Porch, Sync Width, Back Porch
Pixel Clock
I can't even get a Tektronix dsa71604 oscope with DVI analysis package to lock to the signal, so there is no way to determine these values.
I have not seen this listed or posted anywhere and support has not responded.
Any help appreciated. -Chris

I'd wish we had a function like "Pad HDMI to standart", so that a black background signal would be generated AROUND the 1280x848 to meet an exact VESA or HDMI standart resultion (I think 1280x848y is not really a standart, is it?).
The next closest resolution is probably 1280x960y or 1440x900y etc. If that would be the real output signal of the HDMI it'll be cool.
The same would rule for HD-SDI to fit within a 1920x1080y standart HD signal, but using just the centere 1:1 pixel 1280x848y screen to display the menues etc. as required. At least a chance to get the signal displayed with the menus. Or did that change in the latest 15 builds (have not yet had the time to check if HD-SDI is different now).

AFAIK, HDMI using fiber optics taps out at just shy of 394 feet.

Chris,
What happens when you use the HD-SDI Ports as an output source?
Here is a new HDMI Wireless solution from Phillips, but it only travels 25 feet.

It would be nice if the output was normal 1280x1024, not sure why they use 848.
Need the histogram/focus meter/etc - not on the hdsdi output - if they were it would also solve this problem.
I can convert the SDI to hdmi or use the sdi signal directly and the fiber converters lock no problem, but again no meters.
Wireless hdmi uses a new modulation technique - UWB. Products were to be released last spring, then fall - currently postponed indefinitely - probably end of this year. Only one supplier for the amplifier ic, and they are having issues, fcc and technical. But it is very short range and line of sight - 30ft or so.
The crummy fiber adapters only go 340ft, but decent ones run 500meters over multimode no problem at 1080/60p. For a particularly dangerous project we ran almost 2km using singlemode. The fiber adapters are not the problem.

They use 1280x848 because its the resolution of the EVF.
Maybe its bigger internally and they use just that, because its enough for the menues etc. - I don't know.
I think padding the signal up to the next higher HDMI/DVI signal standart would be a solution.
And yes, using long range SFPs you can run several kilometers with almost any signals. All that is important is that they run in sync, which is quite easy with light speed.
I think if I find time, I'll test our Gefen DVI fibre extenders with the RED to see what they do.
Which particular model do you use?
