I am getting married on june 27th this summer and I have reserved red #s 824-828. I will get to the technical obstacles soon but first is the question of will I have them in time. I realize that there is a big chance I will not receive the cameras on time for the wedding but I still can't find a clear answer since nothing is final. What does everyone think, will it happen?
If it does come in on time I have already found a company that would be very excited to give it a shot (who wouldn't it would most likely be the first wedding shot on Red One and will be a great test to see whether it is semi practical to shoot event videos on red.) I plan on using two cameras and swapping out the drives from the other 3 so I should have more than enough recording time. Mostly shot in 4k redcode raw except for some fancy moments where I will probably want things shot at a higher frame rate. I am going to be using Nikon lenses but most likely switching between a wide to medium zoom and a medium to tele zoom both at around 2.8 hopefully. I don't think prime lenses are practical except for maybe the camera on the crane during dancing I can use a fast wide lens. The lack of automatic function will just have to be compensated by trying to get a proper exposure and adjusting aperture only when really necessary (I am hoping that because of the large dynamic range I can get a single exposure and work with it in post if things are darker or lighter than they need to be) The crane will have the 10foot cable to allow the LCD to be viewable by the operator. Is there anything else I am missing that will not allow this to be possible? I do realize its not practical to shoot 4k for the average Joe's wedding but it will be interesting to see if the actual camera will lend itself for this style of shooting. What do you think?

What do you think?
I think that you should enjoy your wedding and not worry about video or film production for at least one day of your life. Your wife will love you for it...trust me!

She want's the cameras as bad as I do. I am not gonna be worried about the actual production during the day, but I want to set up the production company so that they can use my cameras. It isn't bad to want 24 fps of printable stills at your wedding. I am gonna hire a photographer of course but only one for formal portraits. This is def going to be a hard wedding to get my foot out of certain proccesses but I do event videography and have shot with the XLH1 and for my own wedding I need the best possible!

Dude, don't be tempted. No matter how good you are it's like doing your own open heart surgury or performing your own root canal--too much can go wrong and to survive it properly you should be under anesthetic.
Do what I did--hire someone good. Spend the bucks--hire someone to shoot it with Red if you want--but stay out of it. That way, you can enjoy yourself, and most importantly--you'll pick a good one, you'll keep them honest, and if they screw up you are not the one being blamed--they are.

I think it's an awesome idea man, but i think fate is against you. Given those high numbers, it's pretty much a certainty you won't have your cameras. Jim has already said that April through June or July is just the first 100, then rising up in production to finish in Sep or Oct. So...by those numbers you are looking at August for your numbers.
Oh, and don't listen to the naysayers about opping cameras on your wedding day...lol, for my wedding day I set up two arri 1ks, took a lot of stills and manned the cameras for the bridal bouquet toss (so my sisters could take a break from opping the camera and get in there) :-)

I think we should all accept that the cameras whatever number you are, will be ready when they are ready.
We already know just to look at the pictures, that red is over engineered and built to last!
There are still large numbers of er.........sceptics out there who would love to get the opportunity to crticise red in any shape of form. So far they have been given an odd crumb out of the breadbox.
Remain steadfast to your objective and produce every single camera to such a very high level that other makers are going to have to re-think their strategy.
Red 312 and its accessories can arrive in July or later, even though i am desperate to get it, i can wait. So long as it performs without faults. with fully up to date software then we should all be delighted.
Quality control on red one is going to have to surpass other camera makers.
The first 100 are our beta testers, they can help everyone:wink:

Hey. You should really get your priorities straight. This will be a serious life defining moment for you and your partner.....
....Just delay the wedding!
....After all. The day you receive your RedOne is a day you will remember for the rest of your life. You can throw a wedding whenever.

I don't think it's a good idea. First of all you won't have the camera long enough to understand. I would definitely hire a second crew shooting DV. Don't get me wrong, that would look great! But then again it is a documentary and there's no going back....

lol if only I didn't put a deposit down for the hall...It looks like I won't have the cameras in time, this really sucks. I understand that htey will arrive when they arrive but I just ned to plan for the wedding and part of the planning is preparing the videographer with the equipemnt they will be using. Is anyone here renting out their cameras in the ny/nj area. Maybe I can rent them from someone for one and a half weeks and work something out with the rental company I am starting like give you some of my cameras to rent out for a couple of weeks when I get them? any takers? of course you number would have to be low enough that it would arrive in time.

Hey, just invite everyone back a few months later for the RED wedding and do it all over again. :)
I didn't video my wedding and I don't regret it one bit. The wife and I agreed we would probably never watch it and no one else would ever want to anyway. We did hire a photographer, and he did great. But honestly, in 8 years of marriage, we have not looked back at the photos at all. Sure, there's one framed in our house. Friends and relatives enjoyed looking at them after the wedding and receiving some of their own prints and whatnot.
I guess what I'm saying as that the video or photography is only one aspect of the event and far less important than the ceremony itself. Enjoy, have fun, don't worry about it.
OTOH, if you do get your REDs in time, I wanna see the footage. :w00t:

In my opinion if you are a film maker then what better thing to film than the moments that define your own life. And if you can use what is potentially one of the best cameras in the world then more power to you. Such things are precious and valuable in life and if I can be so poignant they're even more important in death... If only everyone could have their most precious memories captured in glorius 4k :)

i'm sold!
I may be shooting my divorce in 4k when the wife finds out how much I'll end up spending. I forgot to mention little things like lenses, viewfinder etc when I told her how much Red costs!

No kidding... That was beautiful, Paul. Your day job isn't selling caskets and grave markers, is it? ;)

Oooops. Not good. See, I gave my wife a much bigger total than I intend to spend. She's rather upset over it, but is dealing with it. Now when the time comes, I will actually spend less than I told her and she will be happy about the whole deal.
