I see Tim has to give the reds up due to no 1080p output, and is going the HPX 3000 route.

but then I read this from RED/Stuart (pretty recent, even in Red terms...):

http://www.reduser.net/forum/showpost.php?p=116202&postcount=116

On another thread Jim says something along the lines of 1080 scale "never being planned", just cropped. Which is contrary to the earlier announced (subject to change) specs.

On an different post a "TV firmware build" was announced, much in line with Stuarts post.

I know this has been discussed ad nauseum, but for some, it would be good to have a final word on the plans, just to prepare.
RED may think this feature is irrelevant, and have a good case for many markets. To others, Like Tim, it's a showstopper.

This is not a post to discuss why we need or don't need 1080p scaled 4:4:4. That discussion is already well done, I think. It's more about getting a roadmap picture.
Any ideas? Or have I overseen some important info, as Tim has chosen to jump ship?

Tim decided to go a different way and frankly for his use it is probably the better way. I don't think Jim ever claimed that the RED One would be the single best answer to all shooting scenarios. For Tim's studio, in the end the RED One was not the most appropriate. Even with a 1080 output (scaled or cropped), it may not have been. That's not a knock on RED, just a statement of reality.

I understand that.
And I think the 3000 looks like a helluva cam. :)

The best 1080p camera out there right now is the F23. But it's price puts into "rental" only.

There's a comparison over at Pro Video Coalition that shows some frame grabs of the F23 with DigiPrimes and it's pretty breathtaking.

I still prefer RED's depth of field and overall image characteristic.

I guess :)

I'm not really dependant on/do think that RED will deliver the best 1080 rgb solution out there. It would be good to know whether the 1080 RGB is coming in one way or another, though, and wether it's a crop or scale solution.

I've seen different and very absolute statements to this regard, and for some of my customers and uses a clarification on current intentions would be good.

To me it basically means: Should I get a second cam or not?

But maybe that cam is Scarlet?
