Hello,
new on Mac. Just bought dual Quadcore workstation yesterday. I have installed Redcine first which is running relatively good but after installing RedAlert I can see just upper half of picture there, bottom half is corrupted (greenish and blueish squares). When I export QT proxies there is a same problem when playing them in QT Player. Same in Final Cut. I tried to reinstall RedAlert with no success. Now I am clueless I haven't found any posts about this issue here and as I said I have just a little experience on Mac side. Any thoughts?
Thank you very much in advance...
Jaromir

4k 16:9 is not yet supported in RA!

Correct me if I am wrong, but people posting problems here resulting from the assumption that 4k 16:9 is fully supported have appeared on Reduser nearly every day for the past few weeks. It's an easy mistake to make.

Is there a way to do a better job of communicating the current status of the tools to anyone who might be using them?

Just a crazy idea: How about adding error handling code, popping up a warning when the format of the file is not supported? :clown2:

Thanks, I missed this limitation...
I know this is a bit off topic but: Now I tried to import lowest quality proxy of 2K file to FCP and have to say I was very dissapointed of the performance I get. Am I doing something wrong as I said I am new on Mac? Playback is very jerky and quality even lowers when I hit the spacebar. I think I have one of the fastest Mac Pro available (2xQuadcore 3.2GHz, nVidia 8800, 8GB RAM, RAID0). Is there anything to tweek there? What usual performance other people get?
Thank you again

Zerogravity,
We are also running into the performance problem. We have a very similar MacPro, with a little more ram and have the same issue. The only thing I can think of that may lack is the rendering capabilities of our graphics card. If I remember correctly though, it should really affect playback on a 2d scale. Also, I installed istat menu so I can check the % used of each of my 8 cores at any given time. And, to my surprise, they are all 80-100% used when playing back a proxy file.

We are also wondering what the deal is... Is it just not possible to do what we want?

its most likely the speed of the harddrives. are you using striped/ raid drives?

Yes. Three of them as RAID0. In Redcine I am able to play 1/4 High and even 1/2 Medium Quality R3D 4K files in realtime. So I think that the drives are not the issue...

That's way too easy... Quitting the application seems like a good punishment when someone tries to do stuff they're not allowed to do :bleh:

I am also running the files off a 4 disk raid 5 internal raid. Super high performance when it comes to read-right times. The internal RAID card from apple kicks butt. The drives a 1tb each, and we are running the system at about 35% of capacity.

I also have a feeling it isn't our hard drive situation. Are we the only ones having this issue?

what is your ram configuration? perhaps it's the same problem that finalcutpro has with certain ram configurations in prores on the new early 2008 mac pro's : if you dont have 4x1 or 8x2GB or the combinations described in http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304492, then you don't see full quality playback of hd prores files inside finalcutpro.

I had the same issue with 4 cores, but I upgraded to 8 core, and more RAM (6 GB) was the solution. It plays smooooooth......
