I did it!

I successfully converted an Arriflex FF2 which uses 15mm rods with 100mm offsets to instead be mounted on my 19mm rods from Red.

Yes, I know I could have gotten the baseplate, but that wouldn't work for me since nothing else I had used 15mm/100mm and I wanted to use Red's handles, side handles, battery/hdd carriage, etc.

So, I had my friend's dad cut it in two! He chopped off the 15mm rod clamps and I created an angle bracket to attach the FF2 to a Red universal mount.

Here it is! The first picture is pre-cut with the cut line in red. The second two are tonight after I finished.

Gives me faith in the longevity of my new FF4 :)

What vintage is FF2 anyway?

Hi,

I know a focus puller who insists on a FF2, he does not like the modern ones!

Yeah, and you cut one in half. Hehe.

An adapter wouldn't have worked?

Good catch Jeff! I didn't notice that. So why not sell it and pay the difference for a FF4? It's cool that you modified but just a thought.

There's a saying in Oregon.

"Adapters? Hah! We don't need no stinkin' ADAPTERS!" :)

Good point. A new FF4 w/ 19mm adapter should run around 4200 or so. If you could really get 3200 on a used FF2. I'd agree the extra 1000 for a new FF4 + adapter makes sense. On the otherhand less consumption is good for the planet!

I believe it, I am extremely impressed by the build quality. It's a tank, smooth and precise.

I thought through that first, wouldn't work. The adaptors would raise up the FF way too much, couldn't get clearance with the lens.

Not yours.

Yep, mine is worth more to me now. It was an effort and a half to get this done :-)

The FF2 works a lot better then the FF3. The FF3 push pull gear change speed seems to cause problems and causes more slap.

Glad I got mine with all the accessories and an AT case for $600.

???? Why? you couldn't find a home depot and a band saw? Is there a shortage of machine shops in Portland? Some one please call protective services and save the rest of his gear before it's to late........

Hi Shawn,

Nice. You probaly know this, but, you can get plastic knobs that press on to the serrated heads of allen cap screws. Easier then having to use an allen wrench each time.
