Nikon 20mm f8 fisheye "amusing lens."
It is fixed focus and fixed aperture at f8. No worries over focusing or depth of field. It is a fisheye though. Read more about this "toy" lens, at the link below.

Hi,

Why would you buy a Red camera for $17500 when a HDV camera or DV camera would help you achieve you goal of deep focus. Just curious this is not an anti Red comment!

Been there. I'm not too interested in a shallow DOF. It is more trouble for me that an advantage. Resolution, quality of image, tapeless, just to name a few.

Probably the same reason Citizen Kane was filmed on 35mm rather than 8mm

4k resolution option, 2k resolution option, S35mm optics availability, 35mm still optics availability, S16 optics availability, B4 2/3" optics availability, the ability in one camera to shoot deep, medium, or shallow DOF when you want/need it, no MPEG2 long GOP issues, revenue generating potential based on wide utility, high performance to cost ratio, future-proofing your business, cine-style and EFP style capability in one affordable camera system...And on...and on...and on...and on...

Gibby, you should write copy for RED, and I agree totally!

(hope you still plan to come to Norway with your #8 after it ships...)

Eirik,

I'd love to come to Norway in late Spring/early Summer. I've got several projects in development for this year, and I'll do my best to get there. I have relatives in Frederikstad and Bergen. I had an awesome visit there last time. I'd love to take my RED One shooting 4k REDCODE RAW in Sonjefjord and Hardangerfjord...

I'll let you know when my schedule becomes more clear...

Not forgetting the low light gathering qualities of the s35mm format compaered to the 1/3rd format. The super size of those big microns is going to allow me to still get a good image at the last hour of light and the first hour of light when previously with a 1.3rd format camera it was packed up in its bag or it stayed in its bag.

Stephen i love your posts they are usually so enlightning. That last one was a rare poor one though:biggrin:

Guys, it's always hard to tell on the net, but I think Eugene was making a joke referring to the F8 thread...

Feel free to come and stay @ my home.

I have a big house, a terrific sunset over Norways biggest lake and a studio that needs to see some Red footy -;)

I'm quite familiar with both Fredrikstad and Bergen and you can sleep in your own house if you want.

Cheers!

Very kind offer Gunleik! I may take you up on that. There are very good airfares from Los Angeles to Scandinavia right now. When I come, I'll go to Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. I hope to figure out my schedule shortly...
