Oops... we made a pricing mistake.
The charger is only $550 (not $750) and the Power Kit is $1450 (not $1650).
In our haste to post prices, we made an error. Our apologies. Changes to our website will be made shortly.

I guess that makes us only $200 more for a 5.6" LCD and pro battery system vs. a 3.5" LCD and prosumer battery system...
Our buyer apologizes.

Ah, cmon, there ya go reducing prices when us RED One adopters are already having a hard time convincing the rest of the production world that a camera so modestly priced can possibly really deliver what it's specs claim....
Dang it, in an industry where everyone loves bragging to their friends and business associates about what they paid for stuff, moves like price reductions are seriously raining on our credibility parade!
Oh well, the price to performance ratio just changed. Boy, am I going to catch flak for having a camera that is supposed to do all that, but now costs less. Everyone knows that in this industry "You don't get what you pay for!" How am I going to explain that I'm getting a lot more than I'm paying for?!
This has really put me in a bind...:cold:

Everyone knows that in this industry "You don't get what you pay for!" How am I going to explain that I'm getting a lot more than I'm paying for?!I believe all this point on subject is not more than the versatility of the RED user. In my country, we say they are more than the mothers. LOL As matter of fact, there are different worlds outside and inside. Even I, all my work is not based on just one environment. For instance, for education or production purposes the things can change. Regarding the production field, there are several distinctive levels of moviemaking, art and business. That's why the issue hasn't the same value for everybody.

Ironic - America was the leader in cars for so long
and then those imports from Japan starting coming in,
cheap cars not so great but the oil problems of the 70's
gave them the in. And then came the parade of other
Jananese products - now Chinese. - Is RED the redemption
of American innovation?
Maybe that is the pricing structure?
Buy the best video camera made in America
for the price of a 1990's Toyota?
Instead of buying a Japanese camera for the
price of a Rolls Royce?

Hey, Jim, or anyone else at RED, what about the LCD cables? The cables that were listed as being included in the price of the LCD are now missing from that list. Is/was that a pricing mistake also, or is a mistake now that they are absent? Do we have to pay the extra $200 or $300 bucks to be able to connect the LCD to camera? I posted this in it's own thread, but I thought I'd ask here since it's on the topic of pricing errors.
Stuart English
03-17-2007, 04:31 PM
The LCD (just like the EVF) does come with an integrated digital signal, power and control interface cable, just not the 3 ft or 10 ft length cables which are options. You do not have to pay extra to use the LCD (or the EVF) with the camera.

That'd be good to get some updated info on.
The two cables seemed like the perfct jib/steadycam partners + the problemsolvers for the "What do I do when my cables break?" situation that will eventually occur...
Appreciated!

I've just noticed that the Red Arm is no longer included in the LCD package, as well - so the price of the full LCD system has just jumped by, what, $475??
I can't say I'm overly chuffed to see that...

I know someone complained about it coming with the arm when the EVF already had one (since they planned to get both? and use them at different times?) but it looks like Jannard took it to heart without changing the price, which does help explain the pricing error with the batteries...
Dominic Jones
03-18-2007, 07:45 AM
Hmmm... Well...
IMHO, if you get both you're most likely going to want to mount both - the most likely setup would be EVF for operator, LCD for AC - so I'm not so sure about that logic, although I see what you're saying.
Still not very happy about that, but there you go...
Adrian Correia
03-18-2007, 07:57 AM
so, is there any other way to mount the LCD without the arm? So the charger price snafu basically balances out for those of us who will get both the EVF and the LCD?
donatello b
03-18-2007, 08:06 AM
I too plan to buy both and need arms for both ... also if i rent out the LCD or EFV ( one not both) to another RED user i'll need to have a Arm for my Red ...
Gunleik Groven
03-18-2007, 08:06 AM
err.. not really, if you add those 3 and 10 feet cables, then you're 500$ down @ the moment...
Gunleik

03-18-2007, 08:31 AM
sorry Gunleik, just thinking if you just want to mount it to the camera....yes the cables do make it a decidedly more robust investment.

Yes but you also had more than 1500 (?) people who helped with a roundtable like discussion of development ideas I assume have been incorporated in to the camera and who have also spread the word which i also assume kept the process fun, viable, and more known throughout the world. All for an allowance that is considerably cheaper than the more mainstream route companies like Sony would have paid.
