not exactly on topic, but I am waiting for a non-Sony (read in-expensive) USB writer for XDCam HD as a transport and delivery format to the stations.

A nice way to separate the various interests in what the RED can do.

OK well to get the ball rolling I'd like to get some ideas going about putting a relatively inexpensive remote control zoom lens on the RED ONE. If we went with Evin's suggestion of a Nikon 17-35mm f2.8 how would we get remote (by cable or radio) control on that??

I'm thinking of basic shot composition here; nothing too fancy. E.g. a basic push in or a pull back from a specific subject with the RED ONE in a fixed position on a tripod.

Now I realize a lot of the guys and gals on this forum want follow focus and all sorts of pro things but let's keep the suggestions focussed on simple ENG style shooting that would be in line with what this thread is about. In other words I want something for less than $1000

Thanks! Phil

Maybe I misunderstand what you are looking to achieve, but SLR zooms tend not to hold focus when you zoom in or out. Perhaps the Nikon 17-35mm does - I don't know for sure.

Assuming it doesn't, you would need to refocus whenever you changed focal length, making "remote" operation difficult.

I could see a benefit where you could change focal length with a rocker switch with one hand while changing focus with the other, but it would take a great deal of skill to hold focus while doing this.

Hmmm, I think you've got a point there? I may have been spoiled by too much auto-focus in the past with the VX9000 and PD170 ?? I'm not sure? As unprofessional as those cameras are at least you get a usable shot as a lone shooter. If I had to pull focus while I zoomed/pushed in or out then I think you're right - I'd have a real problem with that.

Maybe I have to wait and see what 'Graeme's Magic Focus invention' does, in the hope that this will bail me out.

All the best, Phil

Gentleman, if we have Abakus B4 adapter stretching image across whole S35 area,
what EFP/ENG lenses will you pick that will be really good quality withstanding the demand of the 4K resolution?
