Is that just too retro?
Is there a possibility that RED Cine can render out 480 24P, and 480I?

IMO, as a real "non" linier editor...(The last time I hands on edited several vtrs rolled each time we cut)... So if this seems like a trivial posting to the extremely computer literate please realize that everyone does not share your expertise. Strangely my search didn't get much about this?

It appears to me that in the current way of doing things I have to render out my 4K to 720P then down-convert that in the final cut. etc. Maybe this depends on what system? But having it directly available overcomes any systems limitations.

1. Shoot in 4K
2. Using an HD monitor extract the selects color correct them and render in 480I P either 3/4 or 16/9 or 16/9 letterbox
3. Offline the show in an older final cut etc box which is cheap. go quickly with all the layers etc. since the 480 is very small.
4. Using the list from the offline, extract the needed footage and render into
whatever for online on a more expensive computer.

On another front$$$$
Gibby's post about many new uses got me thinking of some days to be had here, if RED Cine extracted 480I

1. Shooting a business/gov conference. There are questions from the audience. you quickly pan the look back camera to pick them up. Of course it's difficult to get the first part of the question since you don't know who will speak next.
OR the RED solution you shoot back at the audience with a wide enough lens to see the group from side to side, in RED Cine you extract 480I close ups of each person as they speak.

2. You shoot footage for a local commercial. Like say an RV lot. Of course you totally spray the place because they will re-use different RVs/shots/etc. according to whats overstocked on sale etc etc. So you shoot it with red now
they have extractable closeups of every wide shot. ie many more usable shots for different purposes from one day of shooting.

3. current news/many reality shows are almost all SD. Even in the HD future SD will probably be the internet video, for quite a while. If we can render 480 we can get some of these days or place our camera with another operator into those days. Even better if we can make an
rgb 480 in the camera for quick delivery of time sensitive subjects. Kinda cool side light that we could make the kind of low dof shots on SD that a lot of folk are currently doing with the Red Rock, Technic, boxes.

While the Red camera body has no SD outputs, you can always downconvert with an external adaptor off the HD-SDI (AJA and others make these) for realtime applications.

Or you can kick out 480p or 480i (or PAL) to your heart's content from Redcine no problem (yes I'm sure). Shoot full aperture 4K compressed RAW or downsampled 1080p or 720p RGB compressed to Red recording module of choice, and downconvert in Redcine to feed your NLE in whatever flavor is to your liking and workflow preferences.

720p RGB will likely be the lowest datarate format. If you record 60p, that lets you make a beautiful 60i later from Redcine...and you STILL have an HD master to work from, and you got LOTS of recording time out of your media in the field.

Yes, you can output SD from REDCINE

Ahhhh such a long post and so unclear Thanks Mike n Rob for your answers.

What I mean is that the use of RGB 1080 and 720 which are directly output onto the red drives (magazines) is very useful in eng type work.

I'm looking for REDs interest in supporting NTSC and PAL directly out of the camera. It would be just a further downrez like RGB 720P is now.

There is still much more eng efp work and even spot corp work in SD so it would be nice to retire the old Betacam and do all my work with one body.
There will be a lot of days gained for many of the fellows in SD Ala Gibby...
I will now take this to the new ENG forum where I believe it belongs.
