Hey guys, I was wondering if any one at RED would say when they think the EVF is going to start catching up with the cameras? I have decided to hold off on buying the RED LCD, but with my camera coming in about a month and the EVF just now starting to ramp up shipment, I am concerned about having something to see what the heck I am shooting!
Just an update on what the planned shipping would be great for many people to help plan by...

Ouch, I guess RED is going to force me to buy the LCD to start with. I hope my budget can take it.
Still would like to see proposed shipping schedule from RED.

If you don't need handheld, there are other solutions than the RED lcd.
I'll have all three...

i would also like someone from RED to post an updated schedule of the EVF. i think that is only fair, so we can make plans for ourselves based on their rough estimate.....

I know this has been kinda answered (but not really in my book) But let's say if one hadn't ordered an EVF with their original body deposit and would be placing an order for one tomorrow when they get their email, when would be the earliest they might receive it? A rough date is fine by me. If it would be the 1st of may, then I could wait because for 1-2 weeks I could shoot off the HD-SDI. However, if it's going to be June 1st or beyond, then I'll go ahead and get the RED LCD right now instead of waiting for the EVF.
Just would really like to have an honest answer from someone at RED. Not trying to put you in a corner, but there are many of us who are trying to work their budgets to get everything they need.

Doesn't matter if you didn't originally put a deposit on it. The EVF is shipping in order of serial # as long as you pay for it at the time you pay for your RED. I can pretty much guarantee you won't get it by May 1st. Probably not even by June 1st. Sorry.
Ramping up production means going from 50 every 3 months, to 50 a month.... :sarcasm:

Sure hope for a speedy ramp up. Of course, I still haven't received my bottom plate and dovetail.:whistling:

IMO, you should buy the LCD. It's invaluable AND awesome!
I'm still getting used to using it and not having a view finder but hey, I'm running around Hawai'i with the BEST DAMN CAMERA around and that little LCD kicks so much butt it's not funny.
I just hope that by the time my EVF makes it way home, I still want to use it!

I'd strongly recommend getting both. Having EVF for camera op and LCD for focus puller is an amazing setup! Plus the LCD is super valuable for light weight shots (EVF is heavy as a mother), table dolly/short jib shots, etc.

Agreed, the LCD and EVF are not really options...you need to have both.

Hey Shawn, now that you have had some time with the EVF.. what are your thoughts? likes/dislikes?

I came to the conclusion today I'm going to have to go for the EVF as well. I was in really bright sun and trying to pull my own focus. As bright as the LCD is, I just would find it easier sealing off extraneous light with my eye.
