View Full Version : Handles and shoulder-mounts...

OK, one last barrage of questions/suggestions for this session of typing!...

1) The handles *really* need to be molded so that they have a top to the grips to stop your hand slipping up into the rails/attachment system when the sweat starts to set in under big lighting rigs or desert skies! I've so far never come across a 15mm rod mountable grip that features this, and it's just a 100% necessity in my books - I really can't see why nobody's figured this out yet!

Also, a run/stop button on the grips (or rather one with an option for this, as I'm sure many people will have more than one grip) would be a nice touch.

2) Can we have a shoulder mount that will fit into a tripod plate, like the Sony V-mount system, for instance? I don't want to be having to remove the shoulder pad every time I want to tripod mount the camera and vice-versa. Otherwise, I'll probably end up butchering an old BetaSP camera for it's shoulder mount!

Thanks guys, keep up the good work, it's looking amazing in every respect...

The benefit of having simple pole grips is that you can slide any handgrip of your choosing over it. Want one with a top stopper? Just find your favorite grip and slide it on.

Mounting points on the end of each handgrip please. :)

Is that the design for certain, or an assumption?

They looked to me as if they were prefabricated as one unit - but if not then I see your point, although it's still quite hard to find a grip with a top as they are almost all designed for bicycle use, where they don't seem to be in fashion these days!...

Maybe grips designed for ski poles? Add in my vote for a way to have the record trigger on or near the handle somehow. Maybe there could be an actuator on the camera body with a threaded flange that you could screw on a short plunger cable that you could mount the trigger end near the handle? Not the most elegant solution but it would avoid having to internally wire the RedRail and it would be easy to add/remove - of course its yet another cable to manage, though it would likely be short.

Maybe grips designed for ski poles?
Ah, good idea - cheers mate!

Yes, a mountable button would be fine, I think - the cable as you say is gonna be short, and it's only really cables running off camera to a desk/monitor/whatever that are a real pain...

Aren't you just a wealth of intelligent suggestions today?!

Hockey stick tape kicks ass for this. Its cheap comfy and you can make the knob at the end as big or small as you like and twist a long length of it together and snake it around in the design you like best and then cover it with one layer. Rubber and plastic tend to get sweaty and slipery. The only problem with the hockey tape is every 6 months or so it gets stinky and ratty so you just spend 10-20 minutes while watching your favorite show and make new ones. As a old hockey player i've found it is kind of therapeudic for me.
