Is there a difference in quality between recording full 35mm sensor and windowed S16 size sensor.

Obviously I'm not talking about DOF I'm referring to the quality which I have seen in images which were down-rezzed from larger formats.

We commonly shoot spots in HD even though they will be delivered in SD as the quality of the images is much better.

A different product which has a 2/3 beyer sensor has been critisized for image quality. So does using our full sensor size actually make any measurable or visable difference?

As I'm sure you know, much of the perceived increase in quality from HD scaled to SD [over SD itself] comes from the down-rezzing itself. Since both S16mm and 35mm sensor areas will have a 1:1 pixel ratio [well, 4:1 after debayering I suppose...], I'd imagine they have the same "quality."

Just a guess.

Will 2K scaled from 4K look better than 2K windowed? Undoubtedly.

Granted, down-rezzing to a given image size is better than native acquisition at that same size, but there has to be some point of diminishing returns. If you are only delivering SD NTSC, that's only 480 scanlines. In that case is there going to be any perceptible difference between 1080p acquisition and the full 4k? That's not so clear to me.
