Will the Canon mount work with Canon EF lenses?
I'm aware of the lack of manual iris control but do feel that Canon have far better glass than Nikon.
I recently moved over from Canon to Nikon with the D200 and am very disappointed in its performance compared to Canon gear.

No, The Red canon mount is for FD lenses.
Birger Engineering is working on a EF/EF-s mount for the red camera that includes control of iris and focus, and will supply power for OIS lenses.

bummer - looks like I'll be holding onto my Nikon glass for a little longer.
At least till RED bring out their RED PRIME set :-)

A bit off topic but I'm surprised to hear this about Nikon lenses. Are you comparing Nikon vs. Canon at the same price point? The kit lenses are lousy from either company. I shoot Canon myself but I know of some pretty picky photographers who are happy with Nikon glass (the professional line).

I had all Canon gear and swopped over to all Nikon and the Nikon stuff isn't nearly as good as the Canon (Same price point). IMO
I have many Nikon pro photographer friends who swear by Nikon and think I'm crazy but they have always used Nikon so are bias.
Talking about lenses I can't believe the emails I'm getting regarding old Zeiss Super Speeds T1.3 sets. The highest I've seen is $34500 for a set, crazy when I think you could purchase the same set for around $20000 a few months back.
I think people are really trying to cash in on the demand RED is creating.

You know, as far as manual focus lens mounts go, it wouldn't be a terrible idea to market a Contax mount or a Leica R mount. I won't even put in a word for my dear old Zuikos. ;-)
Of course, there are adapters to mate any of those to a Canon body, so I guess you could put a Canon mount on the RED and a Contax to Canon adapter on the lens.
I know, you've got other things to think about right now...

I've used Nikkor and Canon glass, and personally I prefer the Nikkors - but that's using top-end lenses from both companies, so at the bottom end perhaps the Nikkors lose out to the Canons?? I think a lot of the difference (and vehement argument) comes simply from the fact that the two produce completely different images, and some prefer the look of one over the other. Technically, there's not much between them - both companies make great SLR lenses, end of story!!
I think rather that the price of superspeeds being a cash in on the Red, their elevated price is largely due to the rise in use of 35mm adapters and their being coveted for those systems for their incredible speed. In the last 2-3 years the amount of productions I've worked on shooting with an HD/35mm adapter/superspeeds combo must have gone up by about 2000%!!! That just means that where once there were tons of sets of superspeeds gathering dust in rental houses, now they are back on the menu in a big way - bad news for buyers, good news for sellers.
I think (and have mentioned before) that a Contax/Yashica mount would be a fantastic idea, allowing much cheaper Zeiss lenses to be used, for those that prefer them, but it doesn't seem to be on the agenda. you should be able to get one manufactured by a good camera technician though.
Ahh, Zuiko's... I just sold all of my old OM system stuff (well, I still have an OM-1n body and a 50mm 1.8 lens, just for old time's sake) because it wasn't getting any use, but they are lovely - and massively underrated (= cheap!) - lenses, so an OM mount would be a good call, imo...

and besides the 35mm adaptors creating a suppy/demand on lenses - don't forget the US $$ has fallen 40%+ against the Euro since 2001 which results in all the new lenses very $$$

I've sold most of my OM stuff, as well. I couldn't really justify holding on to stuff like the 35-80 f2.8 when it wasn't getting much use anymore. Some stuff I couldn't give up. I can't imagine ever selling the 90mm f2 Macro. I kept the 18mm f3.5. I've always loved the way it can turn tiny dressing rooms into exotic locations. I kept an OM-4T and still use it to shoot some Tri-X from time to time. Film for me has pretty much become all about B&W now. There are a lot of really high quality Zuikos, though.
