Was it just me or did anyone else in this group dream about getting their camera last night? We've been on the sidelines for a full year and now we're finally about to get called into the game... Just don't drop the damn thing ;)

Thank you Jim Jannard! I truly appreciate you're brilliance & guts for putting up a huge chunk of money and sacrificing countless hours from your family to bring us incredibly high quality tools & keeping them cost friendly! I know that you must do it for the love of the industry, because I'm sure there are a heck of a lot safer ways to invest your time & money!

I hope that it has to do with either his order being weird or that he's in France. Since I will be paying interest on the day I pay RED I want to get my camera ASAP since I need to be making money with it.

With NAB coming up in two weeks and all of the pre-prep for it, I would care to guess that things will get only get slower for us gentlemen... Realistically I'm sure some Red Team members will be pulled away from fulfillment duties for NAB tasks.

Thanks for the reality check 1251-1500's... Good to know where we stand at this point...

Seems to be a lengthening gap between the "Now Serving" statement and actually shipping product. Oh well it's been 12 months what's 1 more?

Think of it this way if it was Sony or Panasonic you wouldn't be getting a reasonably priced 4k camera for at least another 4-5 years...

The problem is that some of us will be paying interest on equipment that we don't have to make money with. I really feel that once RED has gotten our money, it should ship out within 3 days. If they aren't ready to ship this many, then don't take our money yet. I don't mind waiting...it's the money issue.

We will not be finalizing orders at NAB booth. We will have staff still based at RED for that during NAB.

Brent@RED

Plan is to not have NAB affect deliveries. I can safely say that not just one camera from the #1251-#1500 group has been shipped. We fulfill orders in order of payment received by RED. As it says in your blast emails, it can take up to 3 days to receive a wire to RED. Then, once payment is received, it is a minimum of a 3-5 day processing time. We are getting out orders as fast as we can. Yes, some people have taken longer than the "minimum 3-5 days" processing time. But, on average, we have been in that 3-5 day window once we have received payment.

Thanks, BC

"Fulfill orders in order of payment received"

Oh... Crap I better get to the bank...

Brent I have my total figure based on the items. The one thing that I do not know is the shipping / insurance costs... I enquired about this to my rep this morning. DO I wire 99.9% now and get a figure on shipping later and possibly pay that minor fee by credit card? Or do I need the shipping costs first before the wire?

Thanks for your time...

I did state that some people have taken longer than the 3-5 day processing time. Some were special circumstances, some waited on some accessories to come off of backorder until their camera order shipped, some did not get full payment into RED when they thought they did, etc.

Here is how it works. We sent out the first "your order is nearly ready to ship" blast (like we did very early this morning to #1501-#1750). This is so you can correct any contact info, look at accessories in the system for you, etc. Sure, you can make a payment to RED via wire if you feel confident in your order as-is. If you don't feel confident and want to wait until that next email blast (Apr 7 for this group) that has updated totals, then that is cool. Note that second email is the trigger that we are actually shipping that batch. So, any people paid in full when that second email goes out will be the first in queue to be processed. It does not mean it will go out that day, it means it will start to be processed that day.

So, entirely your option to pay before that second email goes out. Most people who do that pad the wire total to allow for shipping fees and added accessories down the line to ensure there is enough money on their RED account to begin being processed the first day that batch begins shipping.

Hope that helps,
BC

Thanks!... You guys are using Fed Ex correct? What's a ball park rough average for Shipping weight? Camera & accessories, no lenses. This way I can figure shipping & insurance go a little above and include it in the wire that I will send tomorrow.

Any chance of using my own Fed Ex account # for shipping so that I do not have to guess all of this?

Yes, you can give your BOMB SQUAD rep a Fed Ex number to use so there will be no RED shipping and handling charges for your order.

Roughly, about $600 USD for Fed Ex Intl Priority and roughly $200 for US Fed Ex 2 Day Air.

Really? I am just getting a little concerned we have not received tracking numbers and our money was qualified 3 weeks ago!

To clarify, the first day we start shipping cameras is the day of the "Your RED ONE order is ready to ship". So everyone paid in full at that time, that is when your order begins to be processed - the first day of shipment. Paying in full 3 weeks ago - or 3 months ago even - does not mean your order will begin processing before the first date of shipment. We have only been shipping #1251-#1500 for a week. And we state the minimum processing time is 3-5 days. So, it's not time to start pressing any panic buttons :)

I understand everyone's excitement and desire to get their camera right away - we are processing as fast as we can. Trust me, there is no lack of effort, dedication, or desire to get you them as soon as we can.

Usually takes a couple of days to get to us and post to your account. Once that is done, your BOMB SQUAD rep is notified and can print a pick list to begin the order fulfillment process. During that order fulfillment process, you will be notified either with status or - even better - with tracking numbers the morning after it ships!

I was on the ball when I got the very first email and settled up my order & wired the following day. My rep told me on the 7th that it should ship in 7-10 days. So theoretically sometime next week... But when I mentioned that target again... he seemed a bit hesitant. So my gut tells me not to get my hopes up next week but more likely the following week.

Brent next week you guys send out the email for 1751-2000?... & it starts all over for you again? Man the fun never ends for you does it?

I hope not, since I'm still waiting for a tracking number for Serial #1268. And I confirmed the order the day it was emailed to me, and wired the $$$ the day it was requested (March 25th).

Last week the delay was because RED was "waiting for more lens mount lubrication" and this week because they are "stretched thin from NAB."

I still don't understand why others with higher serial #s and located in other countries have already received their shipments. I was told that orders were shipped in the order that they're paid for, but I wired the funds within 6 hours. Hmmmmmmm...a very interesting order fulfillment process.

My guess is most likely sometime next week... That's basically how it worked with the batch before us... The week after we got our initial emails the batch before us started to receiving their product. Since the batch behind us just received their emails tells me that our batch is pretty much close to being squared away and they are ready to take on another group of knuckle heads.

I called for the umpteenth time. My reps voice mailbox has been full for weeks, so I finally called the operator. I was fully paid up on the 10th, and my order didn't get picked till the 16th (when I called last time) and most likely won't ship till the 26th. When I called on the 16th the rep I spoke too was surprised my order didn't get picked earlier, but since my bomb squad guy was at NAB it seems to have fallen by the wayside. So he picked it immediately. The guy I talked to today was also surprised by the hold up.

Even though I'm a grown up (at least partially) I'm still super bummed. I have 3 jobs this week and it would have been awesome not to rent on one, and not to shoot HVX on the others. I've been waiting a year, but this last little bit is killing me.

I have a shoot in the middle of the day for 2-3 hours. Hopefully I'll be using my RED by then... Afterwards I could send out the camera (if I have it) with my tech (both at no charge) if you need it. Although I doubt that you want to mix HVX & Red One footage.

Jared's post this morning of delays only boost my concerns.

Have you considered using a different shipping address of an area that you will be in at the time and having a "Hold at Fed Ex Office" and going and showing ID and picking it up while on the road?

I paid on the April 8th and the wire was posted to my account on the 10th. I called last Thursday after I returned from NAB, they said it was on the bench; system check, back focus, etc. They told me it was gong to ship first part of this week. Now, I just got word of the delay. I think my camera should go out before the others that jump in front of me. They have had my cash for two weeks, I don't think it fair to delay. I'm hoping for the best, they said they would contact me later and let me know where I stand.

I just got a vague email from my rep saying that they're working on it but couldn't give me any ideas of what week it would ship... this week, next week, etc.

No one seems to be mentioning the big white elephant in the room... (NAB) Undoubtedly it had a huge effect on our deliveries.

People holding out with serial numbers before us who then executed their orders once they saw the NAB offerings and estimated delivery times.... And obviously the drain on company resources for he event, even though they claimed that they were trying to prevent that from happening...

I wonder what the interest is on $5,000,000 a week?
Conservative figures: 200 Cameras packages at approximately $25K each.

What can you do... just have to roll with the punches... After all it is the camera of the future... It's just a little more personal when their holding your funds I guess.

You should be happy that they at least collected your funds... I'm just a lowly 10% depositor on the totem pole. At least you can say I paid for my RED One... I have no such vestige of notoriety. Never in my life have I ever wanted a company to collect my money so desperately. Just so that I'd be one step closer to RED #1888. I'm sure this is a feeling reminiscent of the stockholm syndrome.

I am beginning to feel like a bit of an idiot. I wired my money on April 2nd, the day after the emails went out. I wanted to get the money out immediately because I had plans to shoot with it in April, and I had been told that the cameras would be going out in order of payment. Now my rep tells me that they are being sent out in order of serial number instead. I am really OK with waiting, and I'm not really surprised that it has been difficult for Red to keep up with such an ambitious production schedule. At the same time, I think there needs to be a bit more consistency with regard to these fulfillment policies so that people don't feel unnecessarily jerked around. I would much rather have just left the money in my account where it was making me interest.

I think you nailed it. I have a friend who had his check to RED clear on April first and his camera still hasn't shipped. Nothing special about his order either--just the RED, production pack, LCD, and some batteries. It's great that people from earlier numbers are starting to have their RED's shipped. However, if someone from 1000-1750 paid before, let's say camera 890, then they should get it shipped first. Of course, the rep could be wrong and we could be considering crap (of course, without a RED to shoot with we all have too much time on our hands.)

Just saw in another thread that someone in the same 1500-1750 group with a higher serial number than mine received their camera today. I Paid in full a couple of weeks before the emails went out as I took advantage of a good exchange rate. So my figuring is that I would have been one of the first to pay in full for 1501 to 1750 and I still have no tracking numbers.

Yes, I agree. They need to ship in order of payment. It's not fair to tie up peoples hard earned money, which they could be earning a crap interest rate on. I don't think it would be fair for someone who passed on their camera to come and jump in front of someone who has paid in full prior to them. They elected to delay their camera. By all means they should be in front of people who have not paid in the 1501-1750 range.

To clear this up - we are shipping in order of payment received and posted to your account at RED for people #1750 and before. No one is "jumping in line" here. The people from early batches who decided to take delivery of their RED ONEs a few weeks ago knew that RED's policy was to get them their cameras within a goal of (30) days. And we are sticking to that. If a later serial number (ie, #1400) paid before say, #1000, #1400 gets their camera first.

After we catch up on #1750 and before for whom we have already received payment, we will send the "Your RED ONE is ready to ship" email to #1751-#2000 and start shipping that batch in order of payment received.

Thanks, BC

See this post from Jarred for reasoning:

As many of you know the next round of emails for delivery were supposed to go out in the next couple days, unfortunately we will need to pause that email and catch up a bit.

Production is still rolling and we are cranking the cameras out as fast as we can, but in the last couple weeks we have had an unforeseen amount of earlier serial number customers that previously decided to wait on delivery, call in and tell us they are ready to take their cameras.

As I hope you all will understand, we need to honor our existing promises to those earlier customers. Big Jon will keep you guys posted on the slightly modified forward delivery schedule, that should only affect the next batch or two of numbers.

Ahhh Yes... I tormented myself with this same question, it's important to realize the exact wording of this statement.

"1501-1750 begin shipping in April"

The key word being "begin" meaning as long as a few in that group have gone out in April, (which has already happened) then technically they have already met this. It doesn't say the bulk of the group or all of the group will ship in April, just "begin" shipping.

At least two people from our group have posted their deliveries over on the "Unboxing" thread. There's probably a few others who have received product that haven't posted.

You picked yours up in California and paid tax on it even though you're based in Toronto? Perhaps cheaper doing so and smuggling it home other than paying the import taxes... Or you picked it up from a shipping office locally to you?

I thought that they did not allow pickups anymore from Red HQ.

Several of us have wired & formally posted fairly early to the first & second email... Besides the obvious overwhelming demand I think there's various parts shortages that are holding many of us up.

Well not entirely... #1740 arrived only to soon report that his camera had a "shiny curled aluminum grinding dust" that is on the actual sensor behind the sealed glass. Most likely in need of a factory repair. It's visible in his shot images.

See post:

Not getting your camera sucks... Getting your camera and having to ship it straight back to RED right away for repairs sucks even more...

P.S. I've gotten the same vague message in different forms for weeks... "Your camera is in the final stages of quality assurance." Which I'm believing less and less. Guys,

Since I started this thread (albeit after I noticed someone else had chimed in) I'll say I got my camera the weekend before NAB and other than a backordered shoulder dovetail and Arri 19mm bottom plate (still MIA), everything arrived in perfect condition. We had no problems on our first shoot and we put the camera through its paces.

Nate was great and stayed on my order. I did a lease through my bank, they did a wire transfer, I followed up every step of the way and had no problems. The guys at Red are very diligent. Communication is the key.

But it does sound like NAB impacted schedules, and I'm not surprised.

Hang in there. I know its frustrating...

However, I don't think that is going to hold true....I am correct in saying that none of the 1750-2000 group--even if they paid already, will get their camera before any of us before--if we pay asap. Correct?

Now the worst wait for it to arrive begins.

Thanks all at Red ! Can't wait to shoot my first 4K shots.

We do not begin shipping a delivery batch until after they get their second email from us called "Your RED ONE is ready to ship". #1751-#2000 got email one, but not this second one. The whole point of us not sending out the second was for us to be able to catch up with deliveries to #1750 and before. So, until we feel we are getting caught up, that group will not get their second email (hence, begin taking delivery).

FYI, Big Jon's updated schedule is still our target.

Wow!!

I was waiting on someone to show up for an interview that I was about to begin shooting and low and to my amazement it was Fed Ex with Three Huge Boxes!

RED ONE #1639 has landed. My rep said the previous two weeks that it was in the final stages of Quality Control. I spoke to my rep Monday and he said that that's where my camera should have been but it hadn't even hit the work bench yet... Maybe next week. Then to my surprise the camera shows up today completely unannounced (No tracking # notice, anything)

So all bets are off on when you will recieve camera has been my experience.

Apparently product is going out the door for our batch!

Cheers & good luck to the rest of you!

Hey Russell,

Congratulation,

My 1740 should come back to me soon, 1740 went into the Clean Room for Intensive Quality Check, but, luckily I found out the little bug living in my camera during test shoot.

Cheers!

Glad to hear that Chosei. Red is usually good about fixing quality issues right away, based on past posts of this nature.

K. Berlin attached is for you sir. ;)

The only items missing are bottom plate for the production pack & 19mm Arri Plate. I'll have to figure something out since my monster Cooke 18-100 will probably tear the PL mount off.

Once I figure this out and I have a moment... I'll shoot & post some tests that I have lined up. Absolutely swamped in work.

Good luck on everyone on receiving their goods!

Red #1502 has landed. Thanks, Travis, Brian B, Jim, Jarred and the rest of RED Team for the pleasant surprise. I was ready to put Red #1502's picture on a milk carton. Now I can no longer tell that joke about sending $25,000 to a total stranger in Orange county. people who are receiving cameras now, when did your payment clear?

My payment cleared on the 4th of April and shipped on the 1st of May. I received the next day at 11:30 am which is May 2, 2008. Basically when I received the First e-mail I went out to make arrangments for the wire transfer. It took 2 days to get posted to my RED account. I received the "Your RED ONE is nearly ready to ship" on the 1st of April.

Keith Alan Morris

though i haven't received mine yet, i received the "Your Red One is nearly ready to ship" email on April 9. I wired them April 11. It took 2 days to transfer and clear, I think. By Dexter's timeline, mine should be here in under 10 days from now, right? I'm 26 days into waiting right now. I'm thinking he got his even amidst the latest delay, so cameras are still going out the door...and if they're on the same track...its ten days wait for me. time to get that birger mount!

Thanks for everyone's patience - cameras are indeed going out the door as quickly as possible...

I hope you weren't taking my post the wrong way. I was just saying post your day that RED actually credited your account so we can know where abouts we are. For example, I had my most post on April 30th, so when I see people who's money posted near then start getting shipments, I will know my time is soon.

i don´t think there will be a surprise in current shedule.
may is announced as the catching up month, and it seems to in time. june will be a 250 unit month only, so this should be realistic to get out this units in a month.

maybe it is possible to start with 2001-2400 end of june, but end of june or starting july doesn´t make the fish bigger now...

most important thing is, no more delays from right on.

As an old man, I've learned to wait patiently. I have noted that my check was cashed on April 30, 2008. My number is 1566. But one thread boasted they just received #1726 & 1727. Is there still a NAB backlog problem? Is there still a bad glass problem with the chip? Even after I receive the camera, can you tell me when the EVF or the Red Ram Drive will ship?
Finally, I'm still not certain if the camera has a fan noise / heating problem, and if so, is anyone working on a third party "refrigerator" for the Red? Thanks.

yikes, have you contacted your rep about that? Also EVF's are shipping "as quickly as possible" however no mention has been made on the RED RAM front. They're still prototyping it, so I wouldn't count on seeing that for a long time.

The heating problem has been long fixed. People are commonly using it in 105 degree heat with no problems.

My understanding is the fan is the fan... When it's on, you can hear it, but if you can shoot in silent mode, where it turns off during a take, you should be fine.
