I'm in the process of upgrading three edit bays to handle RED projects. Our finishing requirements are unique in that projects are created for computer playback for, internet delivery (flash), tradeshow booths, and digital billboards (h.264/Mpeg2). We very rarely go back to "tape," for broadcast, and never film out.

Typically we have 10-20 active post projects at a time, bouncing across 3 edit bays and one AE graphics room. I'm thinking the following is optimum, as it fits nicely into our current workflow. One pass, no offline / online. Typical runtime is 15sec - 120sec.

1. Edit proxies in FCP / Prorez sequence
2. Color correction, titles, and keying in AE, rendered back to FCP.
3. FCP output "master" prorez file for encoding & distribution.

What video hardware do I need to feed a 40" 1080p consumer LCD which has HDMI and Component analog input options? We need the ability to playback the proxies in FCP in RT and output to the 40" as 1080 and 720 (depending on project) in real time.

Is the Kona 3 the only option? Or can we go with a low cost solution like the Decklink HDMI card?

Thanks

It seems like you have enough business to get a good video card like the Kona.
Why go cheaper with headaches when you can afford the best?

You can also go with the Decklink Extreme that retails for about $1k. It's good from what I've seen.

Excuse me if I am wrong, but I consider the Decklink card in the cheaper with headaches category. I've tried them all and Kona surpasses everyone. If a deckLink is all your budget allows, well maybe ther's no chance, but when you have the means (like our fellow member)... it makes no sense.
