It's a very well done movie with lots of extreme macros, Bolex and other crazy stuff. Total rollercoaster ride of suspense.
If you're in Canada, you can see it on The Movie Network this month.

Nope.
The film had 2 DI's the first one to get it ready for the Tribeca Film Festival, then miramax picked up the film at the festival and it was recut and re-DI'd 6 months later.
If memory servers me correctly it was 16mm xfered to D5. Cut in FCP, onlined on our Avid DS Nitris we exported the reels as dpx files on to some hard drives which went to Das Werks Vancouver where Jan their colourist graded it on a baselight 4. Then off to Cinebyte in Toronto for the film out and off to the festival.
Second time around it was still onlined on a DS Nitris but it then went to an in house DS assist station and was graded by Dermot and Eva at Sepia films, film out again at Cinebyte in Toronto.
A real nice job around. :nerd:

Hey Gang
Thanks for the Kudos
Wow Sean, you nailed the long story of post. Shot Super16. Arri SR3 and an A-minima as B-Cam. Bolex as C-cam. Kodak 200T pushed a stop.
I would have shot with a RED if it was available. It is exactly films like this that I bought the RED for.
Much appreciated!
Thanks JDB for posting!

Congratulations Dylan, I am going to Netflix to get it now. Your approach to the film has me very excited... I love my little bolex (circa. 1958).
Cheers,
Andrew
***edit*** I just watched the preview on netflix... this film looks great, I just bumped it up my queue to number one. Thanks guys.

Ain't nothing like handcranking a bolex!
Can that be a RED request? A handcrank feature...oh wait, the Kinetta is supposed to be offering that?

Just make sure you take some deep breaths before pressing play, because from about 0:20 to the end you won't be able to catch your breath!

It's funny that you mention that Dylan... I had the same thought and went to Kinetta's site last night. I downloaded the kinetta pdf and really enjoyed Jeff's camera design all over again. Plus I love the military surplus, bullet proof design.
Once again, congratulations and I hope to have the movie by this weekend to watch.
Cheers,
Andrew
CrewPix, you were not kidding...:) . The film looks great. Very excited to see it.

D, how do you get work with such solid concepts? all ad agency work or?

The stuff that ends up on the reel is 1 in 20. For every great spot there are twenty other mediocre ones. Actually 1 in 20 is a good average! Yes, pretty much all ad agency work. Except the Heinneken spot. That was a spec spot shot in about 4hrs. All "available light".
Also, I have a good agent.

10 years of developing relationships in the commercial world yields better opportunities.
What is difficult is doing a feature, then coming back to the commercial world. People tend to pigeonhole. "Oh, I thought you were doing features now...?"
So now, just to mix things up, it looks like Crewpix and I are on a 'round the world documentary with two RED's. It is for projection at Science Centres, so it looks like a full 4K post work flow with color correction on a baselight!
Will keep you posted.
Let me know what you think of CD Andrew. I have had mixed feedback about the photographic style! I almost didn't submit it to these awards...go figure.

No problem Dylan, usually the work that I have mixed feelings about tend to connect with others in ways that I was unsure about... but of course I am nowhere near you level of skill sets, though very happy to be in a great situation to get better, make mistakes, learn and repeat. (My backgroud is in news photography, sports, wildlife, docs and regional/national commercials. The more I learn, bench mark others works, read and perform, the more I realize what a beautiful lifelong journey is ahead of me).
Dylan, will you and Crew Pix be using SIModified Reds for your round the world Documentary. If so, I would love to hear more about your interaction with that system. I am very excited by Sim Videos products, their intuitive design for the operator and the ease of use /adjustment while operating and light weight aks is too much to pass up.
Thanks again for the responses and I always learn something new.

We certainly will be. Sim has already helped us out a great deal (and offered us a great rental deal as well). I suspect we will be the first to put all of their stuff through some heavy-duty testing.
I will report in whenever we have Internet access.

Thats all I had to hear... thank you very much CrewPix. I have been waiting on pins and needles to make purchases but patience prevailed for once.
One other great feature with the SIM train of thought are those wicked SWIT batteries that split in two for safe air transport... this would have to be huge for you guys since you are globetrotting and regulations tend to get interpreted differently depending on the mood and machinations of the airport personnel. Other than buying from SWIT (s-8170 not sure off hand if they are the A or S designate-- sorry), offhand do you know of any other vendors.
Here is a link to the batteries... (who knew one could so excited by batteries)

I really look forward to hearing from you both... if you are ever in Little Rock you have a nice Loft to chill out in...
Thanks again Gentleman. No more off topic from me... cheers again to Dylan for the award and Crewpix for all the help.

Yes, we will be traveling with the Swit's, but my worry is that when they are broken in two they would be counted as TWO batteries, hence using up your two batteries per person limit! I guess we will find out. I am picturing us being forced to use car batteries in some countries and will bring the cables to make that work in a pinch!
People have discovered (the hard way) that those Swit's are coded somehow so you always have to put the halves of the same battery together or they won't work! No mixing and matching!
Chris Parker

are you simply NOT ALLOWED to travel with RED batteries? if not, can they be shipped?
curious....

Hey Crewpix:
The batteries, when spit in two, have under the 8 grams of Lithium, so you are able to carry as many as weight will allow! We just had several crews come back (we send them out with the ATA paperwork) from Asia, with one assistant hand carrying on 26 (13x2) batteries. No problem, and all legal.

As crewpix mentioned SIM have been 100% behind us since I first mentioned this project back in January. The timing has worked out very well as my camera is due to arrive in the next week or so!
SIM have promised to have my MODS ready for the shoot (right guys? )
Although, my camera will hopefully be sitting unused in its case waiting to perform "backup" duty...in the remote possibility of a camera failure.
Travelling is going to be tricky, but as you can read here, SIM seem to have the battery problem licked. And they also seem to have a "hot swappable" battery mount worked out!
Now if I could only convince Viewfactor to get me one of their on/off remotes BEFORE may...we'd be laughin'
