Hi David
My question is with regards to Prospect 2K and the scaling algorithms used.
I would like to know if there is any quality loss when scaling from 4K to 2K using Prospect 2K? Is there a better way to scale?
I want to shoot 4K and do an online 2K Cineform edit, and keep the 4K .r3d files as my 4K masters.
Thanks
Andrew M.

And by quality loss I mean is Cineform the best tool to use? There is course some loss.
I am referring to taking Quicktime Cineform files at 2K from 4K project settings and selecting 2K at the output stage in REDcine then using Prospect 2K HD Link and under prefs 'Resize Video" selecting none.
Thanks

We use Lanczos resampling in our scalers. So it is pretty nice. Scaling down is easier anyway, so you will not have an issue wherever you do the scale.

Just to make sure...currently Prospect 4K is not compatible with build 15 right?

You are not talking about Prospect 4K, which happily edits 4K content from any source, you asking able the direct conversion of R3D files to CineForm that is on hold by request from Red. We support those conversion in-house, but are withholding them from general release until the SDK is available.

I cannot wait for this!!!!! Hope it is available after NAB.
How would this work? Seperate command tool? Is it easy for us not so fluent in coding, and more at home with a UI?

Once the SDK is out we intend for R3D file to convert just like any other camera source, batched through CineForm's HDLink tool.

But I have seen REDCINE screen picture here on this forum showing CineForm next to the other codecs Like QT or DPX or TIFF in the export menu. What happened to this?

CineForm is listed under the QuickTime menu.

It fails for me @ either 2K or 4K. I checked your webssite and it says change to "4095" but it still fails.
Using Prospect 2K demo.

Yes, RedCine Build 90 is not supporting CineForm at all. I have a feeling the 4095 hack was forcing earlier releases of RC to output 8-bit. It seem the 16-bit mode for QT export is what is broken.

BTW: David, any news on support for cineform on decklinks?

Dammit! :angry01:
Hopefully your R3D conversion to CFHD comes soon (when you are able to that is).

We hoped to be close to showing that at NAB, but a driver SNAFU on Blackmagic's end has delayed us a little.

Thanks for all the great info David.
When you release the RED codec, what will it be called and what will be the price?
thanks
Keith

Prospect 4K is the name for the editing environment under Premiere CS3 for for all 2K, 3K or 4K content, this project is $1999 and is being shown now at NAB, and get lots of buzz. In addition we are building a nice raw conversion management tool for RAW to CineForm RAW conversion (for multiples camera, including Red), this is will be $1999. Any owners of Prospect 4K, or those that purchase before the end of may will get the converison utilities for free. Once NAB is over we will get out more details.
