Searched the forum and found nothing.
Is there any talk or comparisons of the RED LCD with other brands?

The RED LCD is wickedly good and well-worth the money. Just do it.

The Red LCD is a no brainer...get it!
The lightest LCD you will find, bright in strong daylight and allows view of all the Red menus. It really is a must have accessory.

I was holding out on it (in my mind) initially.
After using it: GET IT!!! You cannot navigate easily initially without it, and it's pretty good.

You need both! They are very different needs. The EVF is for the operator, the LCD is for the AC or to simply setup the camera. Both should be considered essential parts of the camera package.

The Red LCD, if you apply the 2500 credit towards it is 500 dollars.
and the look of it is comparable to the panasonic 800 series, same res I think.
and that cost 3500 or more and ways a ton compartively.
I agree that both the lcd and evf should be considered standard for your
package.

I've owned and heavily used the RED LCD for over seven months now, and I've owned and heavily used the RED EVF for four months now. I really like both of them. When I'm not directing larger productions, and shooting my own footage in my usual mobile hybrid cine/EFP style of shooting, I operate the camera myself, doing my own focusing. Beyond the normal eye-level shots, I also do a lot of high, low, and unusual camera angles. I use the LCD for those unusual camera angles where I can't get my eye to the EVF, and the EVF for everything else. The EVF is 1280x848 and the LCD is 1024x600. I use the EVF in black & white, because I've always used pro-level EVFs in B&W - it is easier to see contrast and focus in B&W. It is easier to sight focus RED using the EVF than the LCD, especially at apertures below f4, but using RED's 2x image magnification in tandem with edge color detail I've had few problems sight focusing 4k shots with either one. The LCD is very good outdoors. For extremely bright outdoor light you might also want to use a simple LCD hood.
Hope this insight helps you...

The RED LCD is incredible really.
Super light and the image is crystal clear and clean.
Gibby, what would you recommend as a LCD hood ?

Everyone seems to agree that the Red LCD is excellent, but remember that comparing it to the Panasonic, cost isn't a fair comparison when the Panasonic is twice the size. I would prefer to stick with Red, but I need to try out the Panasonic at NAB (I hope) since I want to minimize the need to bend over so much and squint into the Red. That's why Red says they're coming out with a larger LCD "sometime." What I'm really trying to figure out is whether to go Red, Panasonic or Leader LV 5750. Not being an engineer, it seems that Leader has all the bells and whistles one could want, but the Red LCD has most of these as well at substantially less money.

I quickly constructed my own removable hood for my RED LCD - using flexible plastic and gaffers tape. It's about 4" deep. But I'm sure many 3rd party hoods could be adapted to the RED LCD (Hoodman, etc.).
