Inresting article in studio monthly... but does it apply for all mac based avids or only Media Composer?

All of them- Mac based. The article does not go into too much depth for SD workflows as HD is more straightforward, but it is possible.

All Mac based Avids with Intel processors because Redcine and Red Alert won't run on PPC.

you dont have to be running your avids on intel boxes as long as you have an intel box somewhere for transcoding, you can use compressor or QT pro to make your DNx files. just did it and it works perfectly with that workflow. be careful to make sure your transcoded audio is set to maximum 24bit cause RED records at 32bit

Great article Micheal.
To sum up...We can now with an Intel Mac running media composer and meta cheater, import Quicktime proxies into Avid, edit the event, export the QT time-line to the "batch" process and only "develop the R3D files that the QT proxies point to?

There will be come improvements soon on the Mac side that will create the QT refs and ALE as a one pass process. Deanan at RED has been working hard... This will help the front end of the process.
On the back end, with the next release, the REDCINE XML will be part of the process. essentially a pull list which Avid already supports for every feature cut on Avid, but presented as the XML ready for REDCINE. That can be used to find the original R3D files and export as needed for the desired conform.

Will this work with the DS Nitris?
