I believe for a bunch of us 2 batteries would not cut it in the field. This said a 4 bank charger and battery set at a better price then buying 2 sets of the 2batteries and charger option would be great. If this is something red could offer I would appreciate it.

If others here feel the same way speak out and maybe red will look into this option.

You could probably just buy one of these:

Sony four-position V-mount charger B+H Photo page (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=3726&A=details&Q=&sku=285854&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation)

Or maybe I should just shut-up so RED can offer a better package (which is what you were really getting at).

Too bad, I'm already all-Anton Bauer. Already got like $2,500 worth of Anton Bauer stuff. Had I known RED was gonna go V-lock two years ago, I would have totally gone all Sony V-lock (had a choice of buying a V-lock or Gold-Mount configured Steadicam Flyer two years ago--I chose Anton Bauer).

But Ralph, there's nothing stopping you from using your ABs, right? Well, just a change in adapter plate. You bare going to use your ABs, or are you going Red with the batts too?

I could probably go for a quad-charger. Do we know if the RED charger is a dual charger, I don't recall seeing that confirmed. I'm definitely planning to buy the RED charger anyway as it's also the DC power supply.

I have a pretty sizable investment in AB but have decided to go ahead and get the base RED offering of two batts and the 2 position charger anyway. Why, I think the Red L-Ion option will be better for handheld and doco than my Hytron 120s that go almost 6 lbs. On sticks I can just use a V-mount to AB adapter plate. I can even switch out batts to match lens changes to make balancing easier - bricks with zooms, red batts with primes - might even save having to pull the base plate to get back in the slide adjustment range :calm:

But Ralph, there's nothing stopping you from using your ABs, right? Well, just a change in adapter plate. No, not at all. I have the Anton Bauer V-mount to Gold Mount adapter for use with my Sony DSR450. It's just another piece of plastic between the camera and my heavy, 5 lb. bricks, and it's a little flimsy feeling. Would've rather had the more-solid mating of its native battery, mounted to the camera, er, RED RAIL. Just a shame. I could've gone ALL V-mount/Sony Li-ion/Steadicam w/V-mount, starting two years ago, and I would've been like so set already for RED.

Well, I hope I can use my 65-Wh Anton Bauers on RED! Although the high Watt-hour spec of the RED battery does scare me a little (as if it NEEDS a battery with that much capacity). But if I do eventually buy some V-mount bricks, I already own the Sony two-position, V-mount charger anyway.

Ah, okay, nice one.

I'm still thinking of going ALL AB-Gold (to match other gear we have), but we're probably not going to use the V-Mount Red mount, so it's really not an issue for us either. It's just a battery connected to the cam with a cable.

Generally you should only use the charger the the battery company supplies. It's an easy way to destroy batteries to use another one. Especially with Li-ions.

i'm probably just going to buy 2-3 on board batts ..
for my use -seeing how the camera tends to sit on dolly or sticks for long periods of time i'm thinking of getting a double block batt to power RED & items...
