Anybody use this unit by Petroff?

Looks like a good deal if it's made well enough.

I've used this chrosziel before and it's the bees knees, just wondering if the Petroff is as good for $600 less.

I have never used that perticular one. I have also use the chrosziel one and that is very very nice. But if the Petroff one is as good or close I think I along with others would be very keen to use it.

The Petroff looks real similar to the Chrosziel 20601S, which is around $1,400. B&H has the Petroff for $1,069, but Zacuto sells the same Petroff for $70 less ($999). I've used the Chrosziel and liked it. I'd like to check out the petroff (hands on test).

I use chroziel ff in combo with rr lens rings and together they work quite well. the zacuto rings seem very pricey to me.

Yes, but hard stops of those AFS Nikon lenses like the 17-35mm 2.8, and much lower profile too.

The Chrosziel is definitely a nice FF, I've used it with my Red Rock/Nikon setup quite a few times and it's easily the smoothest of all the FF's I've tried, that includes the Red Rock, Petroff and Cinetech.

The Red Rock team is said to be releasing a newer unit on January 15th with a new internal gear box with no play. I'd go with the RR if this is true seeing as it is a quarter of the price but just to be safe, the Chrosziel is your best bet.

The thing I'm still wondering about Evin is the rod spacing distance as well as the rod's mm for the Red Rails. That would be the problem in the end, finding the fool proof FF unit for Red.

Should be standard 19mm film spacing with an adapter for 15mm Video accesories.
Take a look...

Looks like 15mm on top and 19mm on the bottom? Hmmm. Wouldn't it make more sense vice versa?

I figure the top rails would house the matte box, follow focus, and lens support. If either of the two should be beefier it would be thetop rail, though 15mm accessories are easier to find and more affordable.

My guess is you can configure it anyway you please.

And for those who will buy the Curt's remote?...

I used the petroff in a DVX once and my impression is that the unit is too flimsy and has too much play. For a 1000 dollar product it sucks, but I haven`t used neither the cavision or the redrock, so I don't know how they compare. But I would certainly go up for the crosziel if I got as far as the petroff, in my budget....

I've had a few Cavision products and they worked well for me. I haven't used their follow focus, but it might be worth checking out...

Thanks for the enthusiasm Emanual. I think its probably a good idea to hold off on buying any new FF stuff until NAB, there are some good things in the works that you might have buyers remorse for :)

Or for 15K you can get one of these bad boys for maximum flexibility. The coperate controller and cdisplay would go so well with the red for cinema usage.
