By looking over some of the specs again it just hit me:

The EVF and LCD outputs are 'proprietary' signals, and 720p and 600p respectively.

The preview outputs are HDMI and single link HD-SDI and are 720p max.

Then there's dual link HD-SDI which will max out at 1080p.

All this time I was assuming that one of the DVI or HDMI outputs would allow me to use a large tft screen for on-set viewing of at least 2k, or beyond. Bummer.

eh, don't fret too much - there are no field 2K+ options for any camera. Considering that 2560x1600 is the maximum typically usable resolution without ultra special video cards for NLEs, I don't worry about it that much.

Esy to switch 1:1 pixel output of 4K signal, viewed on windowed 1920x1080 HDSDI output and viewed on 24 inch monitor would be useful for monitoring lens performance, depth of field and the asthetics of fine detail.

What, no 4k iMag? Seriously, I bet I could sell a very high dollar gig for something like a concert tour if I could pipe a 4k image from the camera in real time to one of those Sony 4k projectors as part of a big stage show. Maybe someday.

That one is easy: Buy the uncompressed Raw port then invent a portable 4520x2540 display with a builtin realtime debayer engine

Seriously, the 1080p HD-SDI output beats any video assist on any film camera out there....

1080p is lovely for onset monitoring, IMO. did you guys ever see the behind the scenes stuff for Star Wars Revenge of the Sith? Lucas was rocking like five 60-inch plasmas on set for monitoring. Coolest thing ever.

so basically make a costco run before any production starts..
spent about 12 grand in 1080 flat panel tvs... USE them.. then take them back for a full refund!
while your at it.. buy up a bunch of leather recliner chairs for on set and same thing.. take em back...
and for catering department.. buy up 30 large pizzas for 5 bucks a piece hahahahahahaha i love costco.. when are they gunna carry RED ONE

Now what would really be cool (think red 1.1 or red 2.0) is if the lcd was touch screen so you could touch anywhere on the screen that you wanted to zoom in (either in steps or direct to 1:1)

Touch again and it would revert to overscan.

This way you could just tap on you talent's eyes to verify critical focus and tap again to return to the veiw to tap on someone elses eyes or even some other area to see the DOF. Drag left and the view moves left--you get the idea.

A few from red have hinted that the evf has a few "undisclosed" tricks and I can't wait to see what they are but maybe the lcd should have a few tricks of its own!
