To all who will attend NAB 2008:

I myself will not be able to make it to NAB--are you going? If there is anyone out there that is heading to NAB and plan on blogging about it, please post your blog link here. Any other coverage of NAB that you know about (RED related of course) please post it here.

Please, help us that cannot make it not miss it.

people fall all over themselves to be the first to report things...don't worry, you will hear all about it.

RED has already recommended red.com as the place where they will be breaking news, so maybe they are setting up some sort of live stream to their own website...i hope they have plenty of bandwidth!

Only the conferences have been going on so far. They had some seminars on the Red that I didn't know about and am pissed I missed them (I'm attending the producer/director workshop they offer). Did anyone attend them? I'd love to know what they covered.

By the way, why not make this thread the "NAB" thread on these boards. Everyone can post their thoughts at the end of each day. That way people who can't make it can have close to "live" coverage.

I expect it won't happen, but I would be really pleased if poeple that attended the NAB booth & show could write the condensed results in THIS thread, so we don't have to follow 200 different "I've been there and this is it" threads...

I guess there will be some opening note by Ted. So if in any way possible, someone should make a video and upload that to YouTube and link it here.

I think better first hand info is hard to get by these days :)

Maybe Jim can shoot it from the public crowd. He's tall, so he should be able to "supervise" :)

See you guys tomorrow!

To put it simply....for last two NAB's....the product reporting was shite.

No one provided any up-to-date news of what was announced....well for Red products.

There were 10,000 people on the Red forum....the 400 who could make it and were in the Red booth..were happy but the other 10,000 were pissed and felt left out.

People were saying similiar things before the previous NABs as everybody is saying here now.

Please, someone tell me how this year is going to be different...!!!

....Is it a NAB licencing agreement that Red can't simultaneously announce products on Red.com or Reduser.net as they announce/launch them at the convention?

And if not...will Red at 9am Mon, publish their press releases & new Red products on Red.com.

What time will all these news & product sites be announcing their new products?

Cause I tell you, 10,000 members/guests on this forum were insulted during the last NAB launch...and if you were here then, you'll know what I mean.

But hope springs eternal and I just hope someone will tell us all....how this year will be different

please.....please......please..... tell me I'm so wrong on all this!!!!

Okay. here is a little update.

People wanted a source that wasn't just my flickr site with a bunch of "other" pictures. So go to http://ducloslenses.blogspot.com/

As I said, there will be photos of everything, not just RED. I'm NOT a journalist at all. Im just having fun at the show and want to let people see what it's all about.

As for RED... I have a few tricks up my sleeve. ;)

We're only hours away guys and gals. Let's let Jim have the fun of an announcement. You wouldn't really want to rob him of that, would you? He's given us all so much, give him that.

At 9:00am PDT Monday morning, the red.com website will reflect all that will be announced tomorrow at NAB. Go to the front page and you will know everything that a show attendee will know. Looking forward to seeing all the grins. This will be the best ever!

No worries, Dave! It's all good! It's suggestions and concern like yours that we receive in the most constructive way. Every day we become more like a real company and every day we get a little better. But you'll be glad to know that no matter how much we improve, we'll still be the only booth at NAB manned by a crew in T-shirts and flip-flops. The culture will never be compromised. We've got Jim to thank for that, the best there is.

How soon we forget David. Last year leading up to NAB I posted widely on RED User that I would have an article live on the Studio Daily web site right at the 9:00am Pacific Standard Time detailing the new RED announcements, which I did. I then also personally interviewed Ted Schilowitz and Jim Jannard at 9:00am that opening day of NAB, and within a short time posted on the Studio Daily blog the very first media coverage of all five of RED's new NAB 2006 announcements, and shortly thereafter posted the very first news of all five of those major announcements right here on RED User.

This year I've been too busy in real world productions to write magazine and blog articles on NAB, but If I had the time I would do everything to get the news to RED User and mags like the last two years. Trust me, I received thanks from many members of RED User, and magazine web site readers last year for my efforts in getting the RED NAB announcements out to the world before anyone else. Guess that wasn't enough for you though...

Hi Steve,

I wanted to give a quick shout out to thank you for all of your contributions to the red community. I swear I must have read your interview with Jim Jannard a zillion times. =)

heya,

Steve Gibby did a great job last year. And now he and Ken are swamped with RED productions. But I can tell you, I've been on the NAB exhibit floor all day (Sunday) and RED will have a HUGE presence... and not only in the RED booth - but in almost every related portion of the venue. From storage, display, graphics, compression and editing software. And I'm sure that there will be -> come tomorrow AM, more RED news from the far corners of the exhibit hall. Can't wait to see what happens tomorrow!

Hi Steve,

Thanks Tonaci. Hope your Viet Nam production is going great for you! Having lived in Viet Nam for a year (1970-71), and re-visited there in 1993, I'd imagine your experience there shooting with RED ONE is amazing for sure. There are so many fascinating images to shoot there - I'd like to return with a RED myself.

I believe that interview you mentioned was the first published interview (early 2006) with Jim about RED. I was way stoked to get the opportunity to interview Jim and publish the results.

Over the past two and one half years since RED was announced we've all had a burning hunger for progressively more info on RED. That hunger can get us frustrated sometimes, but here on RED User, and elsewhere, we all take care of each other by sharing what info we have - that's the way RED User works - like a big, worldwide info and idea exchange family. Very cool...

Thanks for the kind words Clark...

C-ya there tomorrow...and BTW thanks for placing Mammoth HD RED footage for screening at several booths around NAB this year...much appreciated by those of us who have shot RED footage that is part of the Mammoth HD RED Library...it should be great eye candy for the crowds...

Very cool! I'll look for it. Many of us have worked really hard with our RED cameras. I have since August 31 when i got my first RED (several more since). This year at NAB it will be way cool to see some of the results of that hard work on various screens around NAB. Jim and RED Team provided us with the great tools - and it has been totally fun to put RED ONE into our field workflows.

How soon we forget David. ...

Nah....didn't forget you Gibby, and could have said you for the first to give us some news...we thanked you then for the courtesy ... even thou you had some technical problems with posting that interview you still came thru.

Still it was half a day before we got the first real product info we didn't already know and with 10,000 people (more actually) on the forum that day, Reduser went from utter excitement to despondancy.

Can someone go over to AJA and borrow an HA5 and see if it works off the Red HDMI output? specifically the 1280x848 output with the complete overlay.
