The company I'm working for is seriously considering the purchase of a Red One camera system, although the decision isn't final yet. Things like which accessories to go for, like a mattebox, are some of the big issues. Also, I'm obviously curious to see what the Scarlett is going to be, and when it will be available, but because it isn't supposed to compete with the Red I don't think it's what we're looking for instead of the Red One.
On the online store, it says that the estimated shipping date if we order now would be in July, which isn't too far away for our circumstances. I'm wondering if that date would be pushed back considerably, like to Christmas, if we were to wait until after NAB, because of increased interest and more orders. That would be a lot longer of a wait. Is production speeding up enough to cope with a lot more orders so that the shipping date wouldn't be pushed back so much?
Another issue is the 18-85mm lens. We definitely can't afford to get both the 18-50 and 18-85mm. But I would prefer the 18-85 cause of all sorts of reasons, like better resolution, witness marks, and more focal range, even though it's heavier and costs more. Does anybody know estimated shipping dates for this lens? I'm guessing it's gonna be a lot longer than any time near July for new orders.
