Hello Jim,
I did not know you are also a big fan of Darius Khondji.
When Darius & I shot the Old Navy Spot in Buenos Aires.
We where on Build 13. which was a big pain in the ass, due to the fact we where using multi monitors no EVF's where available.
He became a fan on build 13. Can you imagine what he will do on Build 15 with an EVF.

Well their are two types of personalties on set. So I have to use the car analogy, some people just wax and polish their cars in a air conditioned garage, then you have people like Jim who use, race, modify & test their cars and are not afraid of some scratches or dents along the way.
I prefer to be more like the Darius's & Jim's of the world that bend the rules. Then play it safe.
It's not a trophy, it's a tool, go out their and use it. Don't worry, Jim will sell you a replacement monitor.
On our current shoot we have what I call the Chuck Yeager of camera's
Peter Hyams Director / DP of such great films, such as:
2010
Musketeer
End of Days
The Relic
Presidio
Running Scared
The Star Chamber
He has the RED camera's mounted on stunt race cars, crash cam's which are mounted with RED's crashing into cars 40mph. Top of cranes 40 foot high, back of gators.
I have worked with allot of camera's these are by far the some toughiest camera's.
From -18 in Moscow to +50 cel in Buenos Aires.

Hey, Jim. I think I can hook you up with another, exclusive "[High Profile] DP shoots on RED" story. I've just been too lazy [busy] to tell anyone. PM me (but it will cost you a bottom plate in time for NAB).

If you mean unattended, then sure, that's bad practice. If you mean while operating, well that's very common practice. Sometimes for speed of setup, sometimes it's just the right set up for a particular angle. Heck, I've been balancing my 40lb rig on my knee, my foot, whatever it takes to get the shot at that moment.

Jim,
I have some more great news. Old Navy has decided to do continue their ad campaign using the RED camera.
We just wrapped our feature film using 6 x RED camera's starring Michael Douglas, another great film from Peter Hyams.
We are shooting in Vancouver our 2nd Old Navy ad 04-17-08 thru 04-19-08 with David Lanzenberg another amazing DP.
And again with Darius Khondji in Buenos Aires, in June 08. I will send more pictures.
We are finalizing a shoot using RED's for Target ad campaign, May 2008.
We are also starting our third feature film using the RED's called: "Easier With Practice". see link http://www.easierwithpractice.com/.

So, are you saying you were Co-DP? Operator? Or were you the DIT on these shoots?
Just curious, nice work whatever you did!

I's an ultralight arm. They absolutely kick the pants off of the Noga arms - and you can customize them to any configuration you like for relatively cheap.
I really like mine - we have 2 at the shop.

I suspected some kind of alien intelligence involved, from DAY ONE.
Possibly - of Martian origin.

With the camera up on the operator's shoulder, the AC may find it easier to see the LCD mounted this way while crouched down to the right and slightly behind the Op- staying out of everyones way as much as they can.

I really like the Old Navy spot that is currently on TV called "April Road Trip." I especially like the "behind the scenes" video that talks about the Red. Nice job!

Hello Juan,
You are right we are shooting mostly overseas because of the exotic locations and extremely production friendly support. Currently we are on our second Old Navy spot. This time it's not with Darius, he is currently on his feature film. We are shooting with a really talented DP his name is: David Lanzenberg.
