On softpedia.com, about the scarlet.

It's sort of introductory, but I haven't seen much online coverage of the Scarlet outside of industry sites, and I really love what Red is doing, with the cameras and the forums, so I thought I'd give it a whirl.

In the end, I suppose it came across as too partial towards RED, but hey, it happens.

I'm going to write some more on it after NAB, and probably get a Scarlet when the time comes.

i wish people would stop saying over 11 stops of DR and a price of 17.5k. I haven't seen any test that successfully show a usable 11 stop range. Also the 17.5k is really more of a marketing ploy. The camera really costs around 25k...

Hey I've got nothing but love for the camera (my order comes up in June) but come on....11 stops?

Fair enough - he prolly should amend that by saying stuff like

"claiming 11 stops" and "$17,500 - body only"

but in general a great little piece, imo only of course and always :-)

I've seen several many many people claiming 11.3 stops.

Many more saying about 9

Well, which one is it?

Because it makes a huge difference in the perceived value of the RED, and if 9 is the truth, then 11 shouldn't be claimed.

RED might have 11.3 stops measured on a chart. In real life its about 8-9 stops. I've shot 3 commercials with it so far, love it but no miracles concerning DR.

Build 16 might improve the noise and also the roll-off in the whites. Meaning usable DR might increase another 1/2 stop or so.

I got a nice rubberband here. How long do you recon it is?

I reckon depending on how much your rubberband costs, it's going to have both the relaxed state length and its tearing point measured.

What is the difference between a chart and real world? Unless we're talking added noise.

Certainly not 2-3 stops.
