What would be the key advantages to purchaseing the Premium Production Pack ($2750) over the Basic Production Pack ($1250). I am aware of the extras, but for an indie filmmaker, the Basic should allow the RED One to be attached to a dolly or a jib without any problems, am I correct? I'm just curious if it's worth it to spend the extra $1500 for the extra rods, brackets, and handles.

Hey Roy,
The double handles would be a nice addition and the added protection afforded by the Red cage would be nice but not a MUST HAVE. The only thing missing from the basic setup truely necessary would be the 15mm rod adapter to allow standard 15mm rods to attach to the system. This would be necessary for mounting matte box, follow focus etc..

In the end, it's up to you. If the premium pack is overkill but the basic pack isn't enough, just buy the parts you need individually. They will be available on a part-by-part basis, not just as a pack.

Hey Kendal. Thanks for the insight. Both you and Brook have some good points. I'm just looking at all the parts necessary for budgeting purposes. Talk to you soon.

so, does the basic productino pack cover all the bases for dolly and/or jib attachments?

I suppose that depends on your jib and dolly. My guess? Yes. The dolly depends on your head and the jib depends on a few standard screw designs.
