View Full Version : Setting up a batch of R3D to Render with the same Look Preset 1 Light Look/ RLX
Quickcut

Hi,
I just acted as DIT for a good friend who has just recieved his RED this week, and I'm now providing post consultation for him. We shot 2K 2:1 with a Canon converted Super 16mm 5:1 zoom, and I was very impressed!
Is it possible to set up a full batch of R3D files to render out to a specific QT codec with the same settings and applied look/per a common RLX file, sequentially etc. in Red Alert? If so, could some one explain how that is done?
Thanks in advance for any and all replies!

not sure what the RLX file is but it sounds like you want RedCine, not Red Alert!.

Use RedCine. Just use the load all function, and set the export to Quicktime, and click on use separate filenames. Hit export.. Take a coffe or two ;)

It would be nice to be able to grade in RedCine and have it write out grade settings to clip folders in a format RedLine could understand. This would enable scripts to be written for background processing (RedCine doesn't seem to do well in the background, at least on OS X), distributed rendering, etc.
You can sort of do this with RedAlert if you parse out the XML files it creates to generate a set of command-line options for RedLine, but it's awkward to have to open each R3D file individually, in no particular order, and of course RedAlert can't do real-time playback while you're tweaking color.
Well... the recent dearth of updates to Red's tools (particularly the QuickTime component) leads me to believe they're up to something. Maybe all of this will become moot at NAB.

I think we're all waiting for build 16 and its tools...

Thanks in advance for any and all replies!Redcine would (should) do the batch export, but it doesn't recognise the RedAlert .rsx "grade" files. But you can apply the same/similar grade and settings in Redcine, then copy/paste (in Color setup) to each of the clips, that will give you a 1-light result across the clips. Don't think there's a batch way to apply to all at once though... You can Save a colour look and reload it. (looks like its a .rcc file)

you can use redemption in conjunction with redline to do this:

I'm trying to batch export Apple Pro Res.
Can anyone elaborate on where the 'Separate Files' setting is. Whenever I export, all the files are grouped into one quicktime file.

you can save the look from one file/RLX as a preset and apply it to your shots as they come in, the change should then be reflected in the RLX when using Redline to batch the shots.

Could you explain this with some more detail?
Thanks,
Nick.
