Curious as to when and how many RedCams will be released in the first wave? As I am lucky #13 and set to start shooting a feature in March. I would LOVE to shoot on the #1 camera of choice: REDCAM! Although I tend not to be an overzealous or "overly-hopeful" person...

As a literalist, I'll be preying for a RedCam, asking for a Vipercam, settling for a Varicam, willing to shoot HVX200 (damn it). Whatever camera we use I know we'll be able to acheive the look we're going for (ie. the lights will be in the same place no matter what camera we use!).

I'm just feeling a little too close to the cusp (of Red's release) not to ask...

Lucky 13 Bill,

I just watched your Bloody Mary trailer, very nice, very pro... Did you shoot it on HDCAM ? (QT trailer too small to guess !)

Yes, a release date or at least a good estimation would be useful... I'm stuck into 2 features preproductions and I don't know if I must ask the producers to go for Red (within the 3 new days of reservation in January) or to stay with 35mm... I know Jim said not to count on a precised date if we're working on schedule, but on the other hand he's asking for real money for the reservation, even if you can get it back whenever you want. There are a lot of promises and marketing sentences ("revelations during NAB","revolution", etc...)...

It's probably safer to wait at least 1 year, to see how the workflow is practical and what are the real costs behind the $17,500 "mirage" (you won't obviously be able to shoot something with just that price)

Another point : Jim, why don't you post the other footage you've shown in LA ? Is there any other footage by the way ?

Thanks Jim anyway...

Kristin

I'm still trying to wrap my head around much of the pricing and budget issues. So much of it is unknown at this time. For those of us who are already in a digital workflow, RED seems like it will magically just drop right into place. I'm currently using the HVX200, but I've outgrown it and ready for something bigger. I'm all tapeless here for my primary workflow, although I do still have to dip into DV archives and I on occasion borrow an XLH1 and shoot HDV. Just as the HVX200 did for my workflow, my data requirements increased noticeably. RED will do the same thing... So I'm eagerly awaiting those new Hitachi 1TB hard drives that should be shipping in the next couple months. Time to add another RAID node or two to the SAN... More tapes to factor in for archives, etc.. In all practical estimates where I replace my HVX200 and gear with a nice RED setup and some decent lenses, and adjust my current infrastructure to accommodate the increased data, I see RED costing me between $40K and $50K. I'm somewhat fearful of the investment and ROI with the type of work I do. But then again resale value should be high and I don't have a reservation yet, so there will be plenty of pioneers before me. And it still prices out cheaper than a CineAlta F900/F950 setup. Yeeehaww!

HVX200 is a great camera, but does not compare to the RED.

I never compared Red to HVX200, that's not the point.

Close, Stewart, but no cigar! Try again...

hint: Pre-HVX200
I know you can do it!

Looks like VariCam?

But another delivery question that has not been answered....

Those who missed the first wave reservations -
Lets say another 1000 cameras are ordered in Jan?
Any idea when they might start being delivered?
I was guessing Nov 2007 until about this time next year?
So whats to lose if you jump in line now?
Will the same deal apply? Get your reservation money
back with no strings?
Thanks
