If you look at photos of the silver mockup from the back, it looks like the area on the left hand side is a flip out LCD. You can see the seam where it would be and the little notch you use to open it.

I'm of the opinion that the LCD is not integrated into the camera body at all; I think the LCD (along with audio options, etc) will all be external accessories -- thought the LCD is included in the cost of the camera here, obviously.

Here's the photo. Doesn't the panel with the Red logo look exactly like a flip out LCD?

Wonder if it'd be feasible to make a hybrid LCD/EVF similar to what Sony did with the EX3. Seems like that'd be an ideal solution for Scarlet. Or sell an optional snap-on eye piece for the included LCD to keep the base kit price low.

Sorry, I am not seeing it. The photos of the Red One, though it doesn't actually have one, looks more likely to have one than the Scarlet from that photo.
4.8" lcd? That's huge! The image of the full mock up has what looks like a 4.8" lcd on top. For one to be integrated into the body would require a 3.84"x2.88" Lcd plus frame for flip out purposes. Doesn't seem likely given the hand held size.
Anyone else see the problem here?

agreed 100% knock out -- the camera looks to be one solid piece - certainly no lines where a panel would be meeting with the rest of the body.
Plus, it'd make no sense from a practical perspective. A screen that size would run right into the handles - you'd have no way to hold the camera and look at the thing. And don't even think about setting the camera on your shoulder if you wanted to look at a flip-out screen...
Remember what Jim said, folks; this is a pro camera, some people's complaints about the (allegedly) fixed lens aside. Along with that is going to come flexibility, and modularity. The prosumer design conventions have been tossed out the window.

couple of pics i posted in the RED One section...
looks like the RED branded panel on the left could become the flip-out. on RED One that's where the CF card goes - on Scarlet they're down the bottom at the back.

If the 4.8" screen is that big, I'll carry around my RED ONE for my pocket camera. I was hoping that Scarlet is neck strap portable one.

It's just a mockup milled out of a solid piece of aluminum isn't it? I don't think it's a functioning prototype.

LoL, Scarlet is pretty much a brick with an extruding cylinder (physically).

I see the head of R2D2 sticking out of the back of that albino Scarlet. Is he trapped inside?

If you look at this picture, the back of the matte box is about 4" right? So couldn't that side panel easily be a 4x3" lcd turned on it's side? Maybe you flip it out and then pivot it around.

Thanks Deanan,
Good to know, I 'll bring Scarlet to my grand daughter's soccer game.
I can compete another grandpa's shoulder-cam and show off my little 2/3" pocket-cam.

Since you'll be shooting 120 fps slow mo, your grand daughter had better start practicing bicycle kicks.

Wow! I forgot about 120 fps.
I can be Billy the Kid, I 'll use 2 guns same time, one for 120 fps and the other one for 24 fps.

I was checking XDCAM’s 3.5” hybrid color screen that is 1920 x 480 (I think that is odd size). It’s very easy to control any function and menus.
If Scarlet’s 4.8” diagonally measured LCD will have more than 1920 x 1080 native resolution (respectably) and could have underscan possibility that means up to 20 percent of gain of the overscan image.
It’s 3k.
For now, it’s all speculation.
But nice to have large LCD screen.
4.8” is big for this size of Cam.
I can playback freakin’ bicycle kick on slow-mo on a field.

Nice observation. This sony design is something I've never seen before, quite functional.
