Team RED,

I just got home after a long day of work, and saw this incredible explosion of news from NAB. Epic looks amazing, REDRAY is promising as heck, and the news that the RED ONE will still be upgradeable with a new sensor is phenomenal (Nervous Nellies... heheheh)

But Scarlet? Oh, MAN! She's gorgeous!!! So petite, yet spunky! 2/3" sensor is the perfect balance of ease of focus vs shallow depth of field. 3K resolution is just right, and will make excellent downrezzed 2K film transfers and 1080p Blu-Rays, plus having 120fps on board is liquid gold, covered in chocolate, and wrapped in bacon!

And the price!!! $3000? That's it?!?!?!?!? For something that will arguably capture better footage than a Sony F950... Unreal. You people are nuts! I want one right now.

Don't sweat the whiners complaining about Scarlet not having this or that. A Nikon mount? Please... What Nikon lens is going to be wide enough to be used on a 2/3" sensor? It'd have to be, like, 6mm focal length, and that just doesn't exist. If people want to change lenses, they should get the RED ONE. But you know that already. This camera is perfect for folks moving up from a DVX or HV20. Superb image quality and pro features for a ridiculously low price (I paid $3400 for my DVX when it came out, and Scarlet spanks it all the way to Mars.)

So, just wanted to say a quick congratulations to you all. You have exceeded my expectations, and I can't wait to get my hands all over Scarlet. My wife is officially jealous! ;)

Have fun at NAB!

I could not said it any better myself, Jaime. Scarlet is a beautiful piece of hardware that puts gorgeous images within reach for those of us with modest budgets. I simply can't believe the amount of complaining going on right now. Especially the "I'll pay $5000 if you put a nikon mount on there" talk. Not all of us can drop $5000 on a camera and another couple thousand on a good lens set. It must be nice to be able to drop that kind of cash. I, on the other hand, have dreamed of a camera like this for a very long time, and at a $3000 price tag (more or less) it's finally within reach.

A very special thanks to Jim and the entire Red team!!!

From the back in the bare metal prototype photo it looks like a router with R2D2 stuck inside. Oh well, maybe with a little lipstick and a black dress it will look gorgeous.

Yay for the Awesometastic thread! :)

The new stuff looks great. Scarlet is a very sexy little thing, the Red Ray looks boat rockingly good and Epic looks like something to aspire to down the track one day.

And doesn't the 18-85mm look awesome on the Red One???

Yes, it a beautiful thing. But somehow I think every spare penny I have will need to go into the balance of "Epic" (don't tell me I can't have one!) after the $17500 cash-back from the Red One!

Everyone's gonna change their tune really quickly once Steven Soderbergh announces that he's going to shoot his next three flicks on Scarlet prototypes. :)

like Jim mentioned a camera like this comes every quarter century. For the people bitching: How many 1080p cameras or 2k cameras or freaking 3k cameras do you KNOW for that price. Lets all smell the coffee.

I, too, agree... Although, without jumping on the "I wish it had interchangeable lenses" bandwagon, I do hope that the final product has a geared lens to be able to attach a follow focus. I realize this is only the prototype and it appears as though they haven't completely finalized the lens, so just hoping.... and waiting......eagerly!!!
