Is there going to be an option to trim (shorten) recorded clips directly in the RED camera? That would be very economic.

If we can't have that, how about a simple good/no-good flag that we can set during the take, and then a cleanup function we can kick off that'll go through and delete all the NG takes?

these issues have been brought up in a prior thread, and there's two times you might want to do it:

1.) During original ingest - you might want to bust up a shot into multiple takes, or not use a portion of one shot

2.) During conform - if you had a 10 minute take and only used a few seconds, it would be VERY nice to be able to just convert just the part you need for the presumably high data rate online format, saving time and disk space.

Oh, and to answer Stokestack's question - you can always not convert a shot in Redcine.

Since the RED codec has no inter-frame compression, splitting a recorded take into several parts (so that unwanted parts of the take could simply be deleted to save recording space) should be no problem at all. Such a trimming feature would be extremely helpful e.g. for nature/wildlife cinematography.

For extensive discussion with some heat see this thread. Some folks totally want to be able to erase in camera manage data in camera, some folks had trouble with the idea that it might even be possible...

Hey TJ, why did you have to send them down that road? (ha ha) Yes there are definately 2 different thoughts on this option.

There are many valid features asked for that will ultimately make the program, but many will be added as we go along in the form of software and firmware upgrades. We have already stated that the 1st cameras will be feature limited.
