Red gives us a nice sneak peak at what's going on behind the curtain. The alternative is they stop doing that.
Personally, I'd rather get preliminary specs a year ahead of production because it turns me on - the flip side is - chill out and expect the specs to change, improve, get figured-out along the way.
Did we learn nothing from the development timeline of the Red One? Every month or so a new feature or two was released and everyone got excited. So the Scarlet isn't 100% of what you wanted to hear or had hoped for - it's still 12 months away.
Put that into perspective - think about where Red is today and where it was 24 months ago. Now take 50% of that time (12) months and that's how much more mature the Scarlet will become. Not to mention it's being built on top of Red One's shoulders, not from scratch.
Sure, I want interchangeable lenses and 4-channel audio and chances are we'll get them, if not so what - don't buy the camera.
With all of this "exclusive" behind the curtain access comes the ability to second guess and drive the Red team nuts in the process. The alternative is we don't find out until something is production-ready - and what fun is that?
