In other words, does a $3K Scarlet included the LCD, professional audio and anything else needed to actually "use" is out of the box?
Anybody got the skinny on "what's in the box?"

On the Pro Video Coalition site they said it'll have audio inputs.
LCD, it can be a flip-out (4.8", nice size), not confirmed.
CF cards you'll have to buy (maybe one comes with the camera? but I don't see the point).
Shoulder mount? Buy a cheapo, and you're ready to go.

This is what you will pay:
http://www.red.com/store
Lefthandle: $250
Righthandle: $250
Tophandle: $250
LCD (5,6"): $1,700
Compact Flash 8GB: $199
Battery 140kwh: $450
They might bring those prices down a bit but I think they are a good indication. The $3,000 will be the base price. Although I think the 4,8" LCD is included as it is listed in the specifications.
So I think around $4,500 for a decently equipped Scarlet is reasonable to expect.

Everybody should go out today and buy a piggy bank, preferably colored red, and start saving your change. By this time next year you break it open and voila! Then you go to the bank and get a certified check and send it to Mr. Jannard and company. Some time later when the FedEx guy rings your bell you will be a very happy good fella.

I would think the fold out LCD 4.8 is included since it is on the brouchure.
(not the one shown in the pictures)
As for battery I figured it would be extra until Jim posted in another link that they are going after the very large market with this camera and due to that I think 1 battery might be included. Basically I think they might be looking at what comes with your basic package with most HDV cameras and include that. This would mean 1 battery.

YAY!!! we're not talking about lenses, BEAutiful!!
I'm hoping the Audio will be really Good, the EX1 is a bit dissapointing Audio wise so 24-Bit would be awesome and hopefully we will have larger CF CARDS

I doubt very much that we'll see any volume by this time next year.
Right now, we know how good the RED one is, but Scarlet is a different animal
I hope you're right, but 12 months is a long time.

For this class of camera, everything needed for shooting except for the CF card should be included. It's easy to identify that everyone needs a battery and a charger.
I think the idea of the RED One's modularity would be that you often pick and choose what you want - so there are some people who might use it only for studio shooting who would not need a battery, only a power supply. Scarlet is not going to be used in those situations most of the time.
I think the battery mentioned would be overkill for the RED - it will not consume much power when compared to the RED One, and so it will use a much smaller battery. I would think batteries would cost about what they do for a Canon XL1 or similar - around $50-100 each.
What do the various grips do? What would be an ergonomic way to handhold Scarlet?

I can maybe see buying the 7", if you really have a need.....
(on set you can take an HDMI feed out to a really large monitor)

Jim confirmed two channels of Audio.
Someone else (Stuart?) confirmed that the 4.8" LCD is built in.
I presume it will include a battery of some sort (a V-lock would be a bit big maybe).
I'd say that $3k will get you a working camera (media extra) - although the ergonomics of the prototype are questionable, so some sort of handle is probably going to be needed to.

Jim confirmed two channels of Audio.
Yes, but I have a complaint about these two channels of audio. One is an AM talk radio station and the other is a repetitive oldies but goodies program. Another missed opportunity. :Þ

A 4.8" LCD is included and onboard Scarlet. Audio is standard equipment.

I heard somewhere that there's not even a "record" button on Scarlet. Another missed opportunity. I mean, c'mon, RED Team. What good is RAW if you can't even record footage with the darn thing?

The battery is built in, right? Like right above the CF card slots where it says RED 12 volt?
