OK, some of you may remember a few days ago I posted Scarlet would not be 3k, it appears that I was wrong. And that is a good thing for all of us. I am happy to admit that mistake.

I am more shocked by the price however, I would of bet my farm on it being in the $7000 price range. I don't know how red can make something like this for that price point when Panasonic and Sony struggle to put out plastic 1/3" cameras shooting 1080 for $6000.

Removable Lenses. Listen everyone; if Scarlet had a removable lens it would just be a marketing gimmick. Just like the XL1, and the new Sony cameras, 99% of people would never switch lenses. Optical quality of an integrated lens is better than an equally priced removable lens. I have no problem with it being a fixed lens, as long as it has enough range to suit me 99% of the time.

I used an XL-1 as my main camera for 7 years.

I never changed the lens, not once.

It just never came up for me.

A good fixed lens is fine, especially at $3000.

I've heard that from 98% of all xl-1/xl-2 users; that they never changed the lens.

A fixed lens is just fine.

RED isn't the ginormous corporation that Panny and others are. They have less overhead, and don't spend buttloads of money every year on advertising, etc.

Spend less, they can charge less. Plus it's a huge market that the Scarlet is targeting, so they can afford a smaller profit margin, since they'll likely sell many more of these than they ever will the RED or the EPIC, etc.

Jason

Don't take this the wrong way, but I am glad you were wrong :bleh: While I am out of the camera acquisition realm, I think it is cool. It would be fun to put it in my helmet cam if IS is going to be in the package.

XL-H1 user here and I change the lens quite often. You miss out on a lot of the camera's capabilities when you stick to the stock lens.
