Hi, looking for a contact for a quote on an O'Connor 2060 system. Anyone have recommended suppliers and contacts? L.A probably the closest for shipping to NZ.

Give Abel Cine Tech a try... www.abelcine.com
I'm not affiliated with them in any way, but they gave me one of the better quotes for such a tripod system a while back. Oh, and don't buy anything until after NAB and seeing RED's suggestions for such hardware. :)

Just bought the 1030HD for my RedOne. What fabulous action, its like butter. I am afraid that I cannot recommend my vendor - I won't out them here but it took way too long to get my kit.

I would also recommend Abel. Bought an O'Connor from them two years ago and they were fantastic, and had a great price. Blair, I'm also looking at the 1030HD. What sticks did you get with it? The 35L's?

Peter - for the sticks I went with Cartoni because I am a big fan of the lever lock style stage releases. They are fast and when they snap to they are on solid, yet still easy to change. I got the single stage carbon fiber A303 legs for under $700 and under 5lbs! with a 100mm bowl and rated weight capacity of 132lbs just in case I wanted to use a portable jib, hang a prompter, etc.
The 1030HD head is sweet and much lighter to lug around than its big brother the 2060 - and more affordable :calm:

check out Schultz legs too. Nice. But Ross west makes a better spreader that you don't have to bend down to un-latch, it has a lift up pressure catch you can operate with a toe. Also keep in mind that an Optimo zoom will require a fair bit of heft if you're going for that.

I'm looking closely at the 1030HD. My normal loads are well within its ratings, plus I do a lot of mobile work. I'll tell you what Blair...when I bring #8 to San Diego lets test it out on your 1030HD. Nice test combo eh?
When I need a tripod for heavier loads I'll probably rent a 2060, and if I get enough demand for heavier load work, I'll buy one. A 1030HD and 2060 two-tripod quiver would do the trick quite nicely...

I think the 2060 and the Sachtler EFP 2 CF Tripod, Carbon Fiber make a great combo.

I'm using a 1030hd right now with a HDX900.
Its not a great setup for me, but the cam is around 18 lbs, similar to red in weight but probably shorter (length is very important to me for head choice b/c of the mass distribution).
Fluid is too stiff and I have run the head pretty loose.
Feels like too much static friction when I dial it up.
I might change the fluid to something lighter.

I seriously doubt the 1030 can handle a proper red rig.
althoug the camera weighs 8-9lbs, with cage, monitor, vf, FF, MB,
lens, you gonna be hitting 40lbs and you dont want to be operating your head at max capacity either, you wont be able to counterbalance you camera easily.
what if you also want to have a remote moter from ViewFactor, although its a little more expensive a 2060 w. 2stage carbon fiber legs are the way to go, 150mm ball baby and a Mitchel to ball adapter to throw it on a fisher or a slider.
theres also a reason the REd botth had 2060's

If memory serves, the RED booth had 2 1030s, 1 2060 and 1 Arrihead 2.
