I sat in most of the footage presentations that last two days. At the end of the presentation, which ended with footage from Soderbergh's "Guerrilla", there seemed to be an eerie silence. I would usually say something like "either you are unimpressed or stunned". In every instance, I heard a quiet "stunned".

I wish I was there this year. Dangit!

Bigger screen than Crossing the Line? I remember the stunned looks then.

Guess we'll have to wait for the theaters or good ol' internet trailers to see footage now.

Congrats Jim, that is the best reward to all your hard, tireless work. How far is your projector from the screen, meaning, how big across is the image you are showing people?

Well I was there.
I was speechless.
For a couple of hours...

You guys did it!

My deepest respect.
I look forward for more wonderful filmmaker tools.

The footage looked as if it were the very first screening of lab fresh prints struck from original 35mm camera material, if not better.

Seriously. I'm no expert, but I was VERY impressed, despite being the picky son of a bitch some people know me to be.

This camera does deliver the goods.

I've been waiting a year for my camera. This is the first time I've seen RED footage projected. He'll yeah I was stunned. It was like a "whoa, this is really happening" combined with a "hell yeah!" combined with a "I'm glad I had enough sense to jump in the pool last year... twice." This looks beatiful. I also had a chance to see OffHollywoods presentation so I could get more 4k crack.

...eerie silence, that's one of the greatest feelings you can have, you become aware of what you created...

I was there and I can't stop talking about it. To everyone, everywhere I go! The look of the 2K anamorphic for "The Argentine" was absolutely insane. It had a great period piece feeling, less crisp than the 4K for "Guerilla" but in a good way.

Ok breathtaking is an understatement...yes you could say most people sitting to the left and right of me were speechless.

I was very floored to see the Soderberg footage of both the Argentine and from the Guerrilla but the real jaw dropper for me this year was seeing the REDUSER footage so please let me take this moment to say THANKS to all of you out there for contributing such memorable footage this year.

This was certainly the icing on the cake! Thank you. I will reflect more later when I get back to my hotel and gather my thoughts.

Jim, it was a pleasure to meet you and team... enjoy those Monte Cristos and get them in a humidor! They are a gift from my wife's home country, delivered straight from Havana Cuba...enjoy them.

I will post all my NAB thoughts on my blog soon so look out, its the least I can do for you guys and gals who could not make it.

Best

...well i was blown away enough seeing 2k downres of crossing the line at SMPTE here in oz last year... and since then blown away every time with what we were able to squeeze out of red once we began shooting with it.

can only imagine being there...

I wish I could make it down to NAB to see this footage... I have to promise myself that next year will be mandatory!

Was it just me or was it the actual content that was equally as thrilling as seeing how good the footage looked?

Maybe I'm just less of techy guy than some, but after about 10 seconds of seeing the characters walking slowly down the river with the viewers knowing their fate and them not...that was an incredible clip. It's amazing the power a good script and director can haver over the audience, even though it was only 2 minutes long and we didn't know what was going on, nor any of the characters. That was amazing.

Oh...it looked great, too. :shifty:

Saw the presentation twice... The Argentine footage was spectacular, with Guerrilla there was something about the motion blurring that kinda bothered me... maybe it was TOO sharp almost... film-out might've dulled it down some. Also, how were the clipping issues resolved with the muzzle-flashes and explosions... was it CGI or camera captured? I didn't get a chance to ask anyone.

I was also the one, but hopefully not the ONLY one), who said "thanks" for Scarlet.

Nice job!

any chance some of that footage, or maybe a few individual frames, could be posted?

I know you need approvals, and would want to wait until after NAB, but I'm dying to see some of it....

Congratulations Jim! Shaking up the industry is one thing. Making a product that enables new works of art to be created is yet another. You must be very proud.

After the RED footage presentation I visited a demonstration with pablo from quantel, they graded film, and instantly I remembered Soderberghs words: "....I feel I should call up Film on the phone and say: "I've met someone". It was exactly this feeling, this kind of sadness to say goodbye to a good old friend. Why? Because I like the way, RED sees pictures much better than what film gives me.

It is definitively a paradigm shift in the heads of a lot of professionals which is going on. It isn't this much a fight between film and RED, its more the feeling, that shooting with RED and seeing this stuff is much sexier.

By the way. I was very suprised about the professionl footage I have seen from other redusers at the presentation, Congratulations. There was a lot of footage I've never seen before. Soderberg was in good companion ;-)

Yeah guys you did it. I'm right in the middle of the postproduction of my first big RED shoot.

This cam realy rocks. We have some realy great footage here.
We shot 120fps, 75fps, 4K, 4 different lenses, handheld, actioncam, tripod,
cold, dusty etc. The cam just works and makes great pictures.

Good things take time. It is worth the wait and RED just started the show.
Imagine what the epic will be like. Damn, it's gonna be great.

Cheers

I sat through the viewing twice and was floored both times! The user footage was really great. Imagine what great things people will shoot by NAB 2009.

After going to the Sony booth and seeing the F35 and hearing its price point (above $200,000.00 just for the body) makes me feel great about my RED purchse. Plus I think the RED footage looks better at any price point.

Jim, it appears that you are having great success with RED. It would be great if you expanded the size of the booth. I know it's not cheap but it sure is uncomfortably crowded in there. Maybe you could set aside a little place for a humidor as well! :-)

Thanks Jim for bringing this revolution to the masses!

There really isn't any way to appreciate what this cam can do unless you see the 4k projection. Posts of footage on this site just don't tell the story.

It was fabulous. Stunning. Mind blowing. The Soderbergh stuff, especially the GUERILLA footage, for me, was everything I could want in a 35mm look. And I've shot a fair amount of 35, including my feature FILM SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL (Netflix). I have a 2nd answer print struck from the original 5293, not from an interpositive/interneg as you would normally see in a large studio release, and it doesn't look as good as the RED footage. I used my 35BL2 and Zeiss Superspeeds, by the way.

I heard Jim comment at the end of the screening that I went to that there was no audible reaction. I wanted to jump up and join in on a standing ovation, and there was none, and I'm puzzled about it also. I suppose that viewers just don't applaud at films, they do that at live performances.

If you can get into a seat at any event where the footage will be projected by RED, then I hope you will do so. It's wonderful.

The 2K anamorphic footage shot by Soderbergh looked amazing. Best looking Red footage I have seen to date. I look forward to seeing it in theaters.

Being the second one (my friend Kinobairn was the first) to enter the booth Monday morning to sit front row and watch the footage was absolutely amazing, impressive, and yes Jim, speechless. I can't say enough how fabulous the images are that come from this camera. It is a phenomenal achievement. "Shot on Red" was very engaging and entertaining, and felt like a personal shout out to all those who wadded through the trials of early-adoption. SS films were absolutely amazing as well. I can't think of any other adjectives other than amazing. Not just saying that lightly. 2k anamorphic projected at 4k. Amazing. 2k slow-mo blown projected at 4k. Amazing. Everything about it was amazing. There was a huge breadth of footage in multiple real-life conditions, and the images held up perfectly. I watched it 3 times. Each time enjoyed it better than the previous. I recall someone saying that there isn't a jungle in Spain (or wherever SS shot his film), but that footage sure looked like a jungle to me. And oh did it look good. After seeing 4k projected, I can't wait till Red Ray and other previewing devices come out so that I can also partake in all the 4k goodness. Thanks Jim. Thanks Red Team. Keep up the good work, and don't let all the negative feedback get at you. You are doing a great job, and I applaud you for your efforts. Nice talking to all of you at the booth.

Have you ever wondered what possesses people to take the time to upload random clips like that?!? What is their life like that it is important to them to take 14 seconds of pretty much nothing, digitize it, and upload it for the world to see?

The clips were fabulous and the quality was far better than anything I have ever seen projected or on an HD display.

It was also very humbling to see so much great cinematography. I am so looking forward to getting my camera now more than ever.
