View Full Version : Final Cut - Mixing Slow Motion and Standard Speed

So we just shot a music video on two Red cameras. We shot a good bit of slow motion in 3k and standard in 4k. We shot at a 2:1 aspect ratio. So the proxies that were created for the two different speeds are different sizes.
I have all QT proxies imported into Final Cut (I am running 5.1.4 still). I am able to edit no problem but when I attempt to mix the media and render out the slow mo clips all i get is a green screen.
Is this because I need the newest version of Final Cut? Is that able to mix the two different QT proxies sizes?
See the attached image for reference as to what I am talking about
Thanks in advance!

Maybe the same answer as in this thread: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=11342
Is your sequence setting set to REDCODE? That might be the problem.

i got it working - a few things needed updated
still need to render slowmotion in order for smooth playback in a standard speed timeline though because proxies from camera are different sizes
thanks

Great !
Man, it's hard work at the moment.
Any update can bork a stable system.
Stupid thing is most of these updates are patching holes because of iTunes or iSync or some other iApp.
Nuts ...
Similar to another popular OS.

This is your problem. FCP6 fixed the mixed-resolution timeline issue. Time to upgrade!

NO it does not with redcode 4k and 3k!!! The problem with red footage is mixing quicktime proxies 4k with 3k in any f, h, m, p - proxies. 2k and 4k fit. we became aware of this problem by loading m proxies of both into the same timeline some hours ago.
we decided to go the crimson workflow. so we just used the proxies for editing.
but if anybody out there is able to help us, donīt hesitate and contact me...please:mail1:

ps. footage is great in any resolution but if you want to mix it without a proRes conversion just shoot 4k mixed with 2k:biggrin:
