One of my faves is Contact. The effects in that film were very well done, and some of those shots (e.g. running-to-get-the-medicine shot) left me wondering how the heck they pulled it off. Great stuff.

If I had to pick only one series, I'd say Lord of the Rings.

I'm also a huge fan of anything James Cameron and Spielberg.

Andrei Rublev by Tarkovsky.

Even if your tastes are more mainstream, I highly recommend watching at least the last section, called "The Bell". It can stand on its own as a short when viewed this way, and as such it's the best short film I've ever seen.

'Island of the Sharks' - Howard Hall & Bob Cranston - Amazing scenes
'Shame on You' - Leandro Blanco - Anti-Shark finning short

Some people have issues with the ending, but the main reason it's a personal fave is how hopeful it is about the future of us stupid human beings! :clown2:

The Holy Mountain by Alejandro Jodorowsky all the way! A Zed and Two Noughts by Peter Greenaway comes in close second. I'm a sucker for symmetry.

For favorite series I might have to go with Zatoichi even though I haven't seen all 26 of them. The last one that came out that Takeshi Kitano did doesn't count. It was terrible.

Lord Of The Rings Trilogy. I have never seen a series of movies with the all around talent that these movies were created with. The directing, acting, script, cinematography, art direction, special effects, costumes, ect. These movies were the total package.
Other fav series are:
Star Wars (the original trilogy)
Godfather (3 was alright, but I love 1&2)
Terminator Trilogy (Once again 3 was good, but I love 1&2)
Alien (1-3 great, 4 was alright)
Matrix Trilogy (Loved 1, really Liked 2, 3 was pretty good)
Goodfellas and Casino
Stand Alone Movies:
Usual Suspects
The Professional
Shawshank
Raiders of the Lost Ark
ET
Seven
Silence of the Lambs
Taxi Driver
Passion of the Christ
Heat
Gladiator
Man on Fire
Forest Gump
Pulp Fiction
True Romance
Unleashed
300
Raising Arizona & Dumb and Dumber (Gotta have a few comedies in there)
