I have been posting in various threads on these forums and discussions are running around in circles. Call it a circle of confusion.
Can you please share us your philosophy behind the Red Scarlet? I think this is really needed and can end a lot of discussions.
I have some questions I would like to ask you:
1) At what point did you decide to make the Scarlet?
2) What triggered this?
3) What audience are you targeting?
4) What is your vision behind this product?
"How do you think the Scarlet will change the market?"
5) What is your goal with the Scarlet? What do you want to achieve?
6) How does the Scarlet complement the RED One, if at all?
I hope you will find time to answer my questions.

I believe Jim's philosophy is simple, and he can certainly correct me if I'm wrong.
He wanted a camera he could walk around with and shoot whatever he felt like, without a crew and a formal shoot. Say he was going to the Caribbean with his girlfriend. He would still want video, but in an informal, fun way so he would spend his time with the girlfriend as well as with Scarlet.
This required something small and light, but with the best quality sensor he could find that met those constraints.
After all, he has responsibilities as King Red. He can't very well shoot with an inferior camera even if his back is killing him from the weight of RED One and the needed accessories ...

I don't think that's the main use. Redcode Raw isn't for a casual user.
This is a camera for people who bought HVXs and DVXs. This is the target audience.
I can make such a pro movie with this camera.

It will be when Scarlet comes out and is natively supported by iMovie and Windows Movie Maker.

I believe there was a comment made at NAB that it was almost guaranteed that a feature film would be shot using Scarlett. This leads me to believe that not only will the sensors be superb (would you expect less), but that the lens system is probably going to fairly top notch as well. Unless, they are assuming that feature film companies will want to shoot using a DOF adapter. I feel like they'll be disappointed if this is what they're hoping for.
