I'm going to be shooting a project with the master primes in the next few weeks, and I was wondering if the Red will record metadata from the lenses, since they have the four round electronic contacts at the top of the mount.

Nope, REDs i-data (or whatever) is for Cooke, and is not yet available...

The data port is not yet active so it will not work with any lens.

In my camera the "four round electronic contacts" are nothing more than 4 holes...does yours have contacts installed?

On our first generation of RED #0075 we had the LDS contacts. Since we upgraded our camera body to the new X series, the data port is empty.
The Master Primes have the Lens Data System (LDS) built-in, showing real-time lens status and depth of field information either on the video assist or on a dedicated Lens Data Display.

actually you had the Cooke data connection on the first gen Red. LDS is proprietary and not currently in Reds plans.

Thanks, I thought that they forgot to install.
But I can see red & white wire and also 4 pin white adapter is under the plate.

The wires under the mount plate are completely normal. The /i metadata interface will be available to install at some point in the future. LDS, as Greg said, is not currently in RED's plans... It's similar, but the contacts are located in a different position on the mount and the lenses / data systems use different communication protocols and data formatting.

The data connection is apparently a pretty low priority. The new Red prime and zoom lenses will not have the connection.

Now thats a shame, this is a very important feature for me.

Er... That's news to me. Now I gotta see if someone from RED can confirm.
