What kind of Dollies and/or Jibs is everyone using for their RED ONE camera? How many users are building their own?

Feel free to list prices.

Thanks.

This is a few I was looking at NAB:

EZ FX: http://www.ezfx.com/
Port-Jib/Spider Dolly: http://www.porta-jib.com/
Indie Dolly: http://www.indiedolly.com/
Micro dolly/jib: http://www.microdolly.com/

I'm still looking into the pros and cons of each system. I think they're all in the range of 1-3k. I would love some feedback from any users who had experience with them. Or anyone who knows of another dolly/jib system in that price range. I'll post more as I found out more.

As a side note - I sam an EXFX jib with a RED on it at NAB - seemed like it handled it nicely - I believe it was on a Miller head. The counter weight was about 80lbs.

Yeah, I heard the counterweight was about 2:1 ratio... so it was about 80lbs for a tricked out Red. Some jibs can use third party tripods, which could help in savings and not needing to lug around two tripods. But you have to have a tripod that will handle the weight.

We (well, okay, not me, the little fellow with the checkbook) have a Matthews doorway dolly with terrain and hot-button track wheels, an EZFX jib and some beefy old Ronford-Baker sticks we are hoping will live happily under #1880 ... the 'ready to ship' e-mail arrived while we were at NAB!

That was my Red on the EX FX jib! I'm going to post the footage I shot with it in a couple days...

cinewalt -

What were your overall impressions? Are you going with it?

That matthews doorway dolly looks pretty cool. Looks like those tires can absorb and cover up a lot of bumps and cracks themselves... so no need to lay track in a lot of situations, right? What's terrain and hot-button track wheels?

Absolutely. No complaints. It was my first time ever operating a jib, and I feel like after a few hours playing around with it, I could pull off some amazing shots.

Yeah, I liked the EZFx jib too. The handle made a difference. It's mounted on the bottom of the jib base (under the camera) so you can get a little more height because you can hold it over your head and still control it. The porta-jib uses the head's handle, so it's above the jib base.

cinewalt, did you try the porta-jib?

Anyone try microdolly's jib? I really like their weight cage (but it looks easy enough to make it for other jibs).
