yes pleeeeeeeese!
I can understand that some posts pissed you off, but the majority on this board needs your input. Without you voicing your vision, things around here are bound to get even more speculative and nobody gains from that.
anyway, be well & all the best - thank you for this wonderful affordable camera!

Passion and involvement tends to make things a million times bigger than they are... Extreme happyness, extreme hate, extreme excitement, extreme disappointment... And extreme frustration comes with extreme genius! You have the right to be tired... But you have given us the extreme audacity, and now we must learn tact in temerity: how much can we push it too far!... ;)

The man has just spent the last two years probably doing 12+ hours a day, 7 days a week. He is now looking at another two grueling years on all the new stuff. I think he not only deserves a break but really needs it. I hope he flies his jet to the Caribbean and sits on a beach for two weeks thinking of anything but cameras.

Probably out playing with Build 16.... I expect some new videos when he comes back, or some new surprises! :)
Enjoy your rest Jim, you've earned it.

When I jump on thread the first thing I do is scroll down like crazy to find that BIG ASS RED LOGO. Then go back up and continue down again and begin reading everybody else's.

Jim
I for one, thoroughly appreciated hearing directly from the chief and I shared your excitement. I should have said it before, but I've been back here believing in your revolution for ages. I got in line. I puts my money down. Hopefully Dan will have my accessories ready soon.
But really Jim, this kind of revolution only happens with someone revolutionary at the helm. We know you could have spent the rest of your days drinking margaritas by the pool but for your second act, you chose to climb the mountain one more time. And it will be decades before the full impact is felt. By opening the gates to people outside the hollywood system, how many other filmakers will pop up that might never have? How many movies will be made? You're changing the world. Look at the community that has rallied around it already.
There will always be critics in every community, in a way it's a sign of critical mass. In the words of flight of the conchords:
other rappers dis me
say my rhymes are sissy
why?
why?
why?
why exactly?
be more constructive with your feedback.
You are a once in a lifetime leader Jim, bringing movies to the masses. You did it for love, not for money. Some of us leaders, get that.
now please have dan send me my camera. :)

I think the Hiatus is great. Jim deserves a break, and I need to spend less time on these boards, so I can afford the Epic, which (unbelievably) takes Red to an even higher level. And I can live ... without him ........... (sob)

I think the way to trick Jim into coming back is to post great Red shots in the Footage / Field Tests forum. I notice he can't resist posting there when someone puts up an awesome clip. :)

My mornings are just not the same without running to my computer to check the Recon...but alas, there's no Jim and no new Recon.
Breaks are good though, but there seems to be a lot of lives that are affected by Jim and his wise words of wisdom. He should be proud of what he's done and created!

C'mon guys,
do you all want to align your future holiday planning in sync with Jim's?
Imagine a whole industry taking a break, just because Jim wants a vacation...
Let him have his break as long as he wants to. He comes back when he wants to. I don't think anyone can really trigger him to come here unless himself :). And its his damn right to do so.
I guess its useless to add he's always very welcome in his own home, is it?
Cheers,
Axel

Wrong direction.
It was snowing up here this weekend. Big fat flakes. Don't know if it was snowing west of here. See attached picture for a dose of April Seattle weather.

Well, with all due respect to the community that populates REDUSER, I have to say that it is probably a frustrating place to be if you're Jim and probably the rest of the RED team. Things get brutal in here at times. Other times it is very productive and we see some great info posted as a result.
Unfortunately, often times sandwiched in between good posts are ones full of noise, often hijacks that do not contribute anything to the conversation. But it's a free world, and it's a free forum and people say whatever they want, so we can choose to ignore them.
But getting back to Jim. What they are doing is incredibly hard. Maybe even more than they thought. You are going to suffer some bumps and bruises along the way, kind of goes with the territory when doing something of this magnitude. And I think he is tough enough to take criticism, I really do. But I also think they ask us for a certain level of respect, and I would say that has been compromised many times. There's always going to be a line, and it may have been crossed too many times. If you put yourself in Jim's shoes, you can see why it might get frustrating, and all the hard work you put forth to get to this point is not appreciated at times.
I think as a community, we need to take responsibility for our thoughts and actions, and show respect not only to Jim, but everyone else as well. One of my goals with organizing the REDUSER event at NAB was to give people an opportunity to meet face to face, so you can see that there is a human being on the other end of that avatar.
Perhaps once the forum cleans itself up, Jim might join us again. I would never pretend to be speaking for him of course, but as an observer, that would seem to make sense to me. We also owe it to Jarred and those who started this community to respect it.
Just one man's perspective.

Let's let Jim do what he does best - create revolutionary solutions to difficult problems for us. He doesn't need to babysit these boards. i am sure any really important issues that surface on these boards will get his attention if it's needed.
After my visit to the NAB booth and meeting the enthusiastic and intelligent people he surrounds himself with - I am very happy for him taking a break and am sure his projects are in good hands (and minds).
The best thing we can do for Jim is us doing outstanding work with his creations. Only met him for a moment, but that is the vibe I got from him.

Even though Jim only chimed in occasionally, it does seem that he was the life of the party. Just hasn't quite been right in his absence.

Actually, Jim was pretty active... not the occasional poster. Unless you call 1800+ posts "occasional".
But when he spoke, everyone listened. It made the forum fun. :)
But I wish him well on his hiatus.
(I just can't find anything that was really offensive on the forum yet. I know there's always the whiners, idiots, flamers, etc., but I figured Jim & Crew would be used to that by now. So I don't think it's because of the forum... maybe he's just taking a breather like he said.)

I noticed that one of Jim's obvious skills is when not to speak.
In this way, when he actually speaks, everyone listens.
And, of course, he's got all that hot info about... everything.
:).
...
Aargh, gimme my Scarlet already!
