I was researching a bit the Scarlet Dragon and found conflicting info:
On Phils pinned thread about dragon, there's a format key table talking about max frame rates on Epic and Scarlet dragon. The info therein conflicts with the product tech specs on the RED store for the Scarlet Dragon.
For example:
On Phil's, max frame rate at 5K FF is 24.22
On RED's Product page 5K FF is 48
On Phil's, max for 4k FF is 38.42
On RED's, 4K FF is 60
On Phil's, max for 3k FF is 67.29
On RED's, 3K FF is 80

The discrepancy is quite large, and Phil being the authority on all things RED, I believe him more than the specs on the RED page. Can someone point which is correct, or at least closest to reality?

Thank you guys. So is it fair to say that the tech specs on the product page are accurate?

Daniel are you going for the scarlet dragon rather than epic dragon?

For now. I am purchasing a Scarlet Dragon, and selling the Scarlet MX I have. That'll be the first step in considering if/when I will upgrade my Epic. Taking into consideration a few things. Some obvious like IQ in diverse settings, and some a little more subjective like market demand in my area and such.

The DSMC (beta) operations guide (Rev D) and the Media operations guide (Rev F) have complete and correct information. There's a ton of confusion about max frame rates because sometimes they are quoted at *minimum* compression (i.e., REDCODE 5:1 or REDCODE 8:1 or whatever happens to be minimum for the format) and other times they are quoted at *maximum* compression (i.e., REDCODE 16:1). Both are right, or both are wrong, depending on which side of bed you get out of. Instead of guessing, just read the actual documentation from RED and you will get the right answer for you.

My fault because I don't own a Scarlet Dragon and I did go by the minimum REDCODE compression FPS.

To retain my title as the "authority on all things RED" I have promptly updated Red Dragon Format Key with the appropriate values.

Red Dragon - Format Key 2014
I have split up the Format Key into two pages. 6K-4K and 3.5K-2K. There's a good deal of productions now shooting at 4K and up for a 4K finish and they may only need the first page.

One day I'll have a room full of all of the Red cameras sitting next to me and this will be easier :)

Hi Phil and all,

Do you have the maximum compression rate for each frame rate for Scarlet Dragon ?

That would be great to know about that data as I could not find any where specify on that.

Thanks,

Cuong

The DSMC Media Guide is what you're looking for. I would include it with my Data Sheets, however, with various media types and number of variables it's hard to make pretty. But I'll do it for sure.
