80 GB Solid State cartrige >200 MB/s.
Does anybody at NAB check what it is?

Sanjin, I went past the A-Cam booth at NAB and I'm pretty sure all they were promoting was the A-Cam S16. I don't recall seeing any promotion for 2k, digital or a solid state magazine.

Thanks Rocketeer.
I was interested in to hear is the 80 GB Solid State cartrige >200 MB/s working as advertised.

Yes, I'm wondering if perhaps this is some clever-assed way of promoting super 16?

I went by the booth. Nice guys. It is in fact a digital camera. They showed me the Solid State Cartridge. 80GBs...
How many minutes of 2K for 80GBs? About 12 minutes.
Apparently they're getting their sensor from Kodak. Not much other info about the camera though.

And they probably have interchangable lenses... So alot of complaints about scarlet can dissapear now... ;)
Yes and there are old 16mm lenses on C-mount, a Bolex sort of stuff.

The company is even smaller than RED.
I fear in-camera image processing will be their weak point compared to RED, but in any case this is even more "mock-up ware" than Scarlet since they do not have any previous digital camera to build on.
It looks close to what I have hoped somebody would make, but it remains to see how good they are with electronics and firmware.

Looks nice! I get the gut feeling that it'll cost over $10,000 without recording media or lenses. Still, it may be great. And that's a Zeiss still camera lens, right? If so, that's a big plus. Having a built-in mount for SLR lenses is very appealing. I look forward to hearing more about it, especially the price.

I downloaded the sample footage from their site and it looks quite noisy, but at the same time nice. I like the design more then Scarlets "hook-look".
Future survival of this cam will be determined by the price and workflow. How does it stack-up against Scarlet...
How much do one needs to compromise in relation to cameras noisy output..
If price is low - me can live with that noise, but if price is 10000$ then I don't care...
coz me have Scarlet.

That site is confusing though. Is the footage up there really from the new digital camera or from their 16mm camera?
It's a beautiful design though. I wish Scarlet looked more like this. I hope Red discovers curves soon.

Based on what the guys told me at the booth, this camera is recording uncompressed 2K. That means 12 minutes per 80GB drive vs. 14-15 minutes of 3K per 16GB flash card in Scarlet.
Not sure that the viewfinder will be reflex or not.
The camera is not done yet.

Yeah, I see what you mean. I was thinking more of complex curves though rather than a cylinder plus rounded rectangle. :bleh:

"Confusing" is a kind word for it. On the page devoted to their proposed digital camera, they have a "download sample footage" link that downloads totally irrelevant footage from their 16mm camera. And that footage suffers from poor execution and even worse processing and compression.
Their products may be perfectly good, but these guys do themselves a disservice by having unprofessional media on their site.

Also, since this little camera is much the same form as their 16mm, it could easily have the same mechanical shutter!

It looks nice. I wonder how much different from the SP16 it will be. The SP16 is a tiny camera, about the size of my hand (I have big hands!) wich uses C-mount lenses. Its viewfinder is parallell mounted, so it's non-reflex.
One of the big questions (among many others) is what the sensor size will be, especially if it is meant to work with 35mm still lenses.

From when I first saw the prototype SI camera to the machine today it has drastically changed physical design. Don't expect this camera to end up just like what you see in that picture. It is significantly smaller than their S-16 camera -- in fact I said it might be TOO small. I also had some other suggestions as I'm sure many others did as well. They're smart guys and I'm sure they'll take them into consideration before finishing their design. That's what a behind-the-curtain sneek peek is for. Personally I wish the photo had never made it to the web, as now they'll just get noise for any changes. Although I guess they are getting a lot of attention here...

Who knows?
If they could follow the Swedish "IKEA" (http://www.ikea.com/) or "H&M" (http://www.hm.com/) like a production and pricing than we would get it for less than 1000 US $, Euro or "Svensk Krona".
But that's all about the key of RED product success.
You deal with celebrities to advertise your product and then sell thousand of them to the masses around the world for the lowest price possible.
Before you have to manage your R&D and your mass production fields somewhere in between China and California.
You made in Singapore.

If the camera was like IKEA and HM you would have to build the camera yourself and the parts made by child workers in indonesia or china or some place like that.

Andreas,
I see you are sort of "Swedish doing things" expert.
And all what I said about RED is a metaphor.
Nothing is real.
I'm not working for RED nor living in Sweden.
My observations are all "Made in Austria".

I was just ironic. Everyone knows IKEA is known because of cheap furniture that you assemble yourself. HM manufactures all their chlothes in asia and I'm sure the workers at those factories have a "lesser" work enviroment.
I really didn't mean anything by it... :)

Ikonoskop is sort of the red of the film world. The A CAM SP 16 is dirt cheap for a s16 camera. I noticed that another prototype camera they were planning to release (but so far have not due to no interest) was planned to be the exact same price as the a cam. If this is well under 10 grand, I would be surprised (and I'm sure sony/panasonic/etc would be too), but after scarlet, anything seems possible.
