Has anyone ever thought of scanning the image on the imager in vertical lines instead of horizontally?

That would produce horizontal skew instead of vertical. I think there are much less movements in the vertical direction, much less tilts than pans. Am I wrong?

My old mechanical Canon 35mm still camera has a slit that moves from the left to the right. Couldn't an electronic imager do the same?

But then you'd have a jell-o effect when panning. I prefer the skew to the jell-o.
