Hi Guy's,

Has anyone had any experience shooting in a club with a laser occasionally hitting the sensor ? , i have a hip hop video coming up next week and there will be a few shots that involve a martin laser http://www.martin.com/product/product.asp?product=rgblaser16

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

laser can damage sensors in seconds, its only a question of power. i have seen happening it. get an insurance and proceed with extreme caution.

The camera's tolerance to laser light is much greater than your retinas.

Yes it can - to some degree.
I know someone who had a few pixels burn out due to a club laser light.
He had to have the CCD block replaced - because they were noticable on teh screen when shooting in the dark. Just be careful :)

There's a fascinating paper on laser light show safety at:

http://www.fda.gov/cdrh/radhlth/pdf/llsgde01.pdf

The paper outlines the responsibility of the light show operator for notification and safety with respect to your retinas. Depending on the power of the laser, they may be obligated to have a laser safety officer on the premises. Once you have the data you need to protect your eyes, you should have what you need to protect the camera since it will be approximately where your eyes can be expected to be.
